My insurance is up for renewal and i've been on TPTF for last 2 years. My renewal is £680 TPFT ot £800 Fully comp.

What i want to know is, if i take the fully comp out will i be able to drive other cars Third Party without any problems or is their specific requirements (e.g age)

The insurance will be with Admiral or Elephant and Im 20 at the moment.

Cheers

You'd need it to be written into the insurance agreement. FC doesn't give TP on other cars automatically like it used to.

I wouldnt of thought so. You have to be a certain age for this or i think you can have DOC added to your policy at cost. Im 21 and i dont have DOC available too me.

It should say on your policy, not all companies offer it :)

How much is your car worth? if it worth peanuts is it really worth being FC?

My car is only worth about £1k (205 gti 1.9) but i was only going to take advantage of fully comp as it's fairly cheap and would help as i would have the convenience of being able to drive my dad's car when my car is broken. :D

Lol ok, looks like a 'NO' haha. I'm pretty please with the price i got for TPFT on the car anyway.

Surely it's worth the extra £120 for FC?

You'd be kicking yourself later if something happens and you loose a grand

He'll lose a grand if he claims anyway, firstly the excess will be approx £500 anyway with his age etc, then you have the cost of a claim adding to your insurance, then you have the loss of NCB, etc etc..

No, you'd have to be over 25 with FC insurance to have DOC cover :)

(iirc)

Most definately NOT TRUE. I'm 22 (23 next week) and have had DOC cover on my policies for the last 2 years.

who with and how much, and how many NCB do you have?

Churchill, add-on to the policy (at cost, albeit not much). I'm 22, 3 years NCD (soon to be 23, 4 years NCD)

Oh and Jay, DO NOT just accept the renewal price! You'll be able to get a couple of hundred knocked off if you shop around. If you want get htose and go back to Elephant and ask them to match it :)

Just DON'T accept the renewal price PLEASE! :(

Definitely

After my accident Endsleigh (the insurer at the time of the accident) wanted £1500 (!!) renewal - Direct Line wanted £900

It's really worth shopping around. Even before the accident, Admiral (my insurer at the time - this was about a year ago) quoted £1200 renewal, Endsleigh wanted £900

DOC is something that needs to be specifically noted on your ceritficate of motor insurance. Generally it's not offered as part of FC policies unless ytou are > 25 and ven then you should check you definately have it.

Some companies might offer it younger, but do not assume you have it, you should ask when shopping around for quotes.

It looks like it could become a thing of the past anyway, I think Norwich Union are planning to remove it for drivers of any age at some point in the future - mainly because it is abused too much. It is meant for light occasional use, but people do things like insure a mini FC and leave it sat to rot in their garage and then drive around in a much more expensive car using the DOC cover and that kind of thing.
