Ok, I know some of the links are a little tenuous, but a few like the Monty Python one maybe me smile :)

I do like Blizzard's sense of humour, whatever you think of them they can at least have a laugh, like the quote in the below picture :) (It made me laugh considering Id only just landed in Outland :p )

Sorry for the mini thread hijack but im having a problem installing WoW and was gonna post a image of the error up but the image link thing is'nt working today, or the smilys. I dont know the /img code thing to do it manualy either.

As there are lots of WoW players that come in here maybe someone knows whats wrong.
Upon installing I get a data verification failed error, and the installer quits about 25% of the way through.

I have downloaded the trial twice now, and tried installing on different drives but no luck. Thats 8 gig of WoW DL's that dont work.

Gonna search the WoW forums now, just thought I would ask here also, as there are a lot of players here.

@ Youngblood.
Are you sure you are downloading the euro version not the yankee version.

Yes, have downloaded the EU version twice now, both failed "data verification"
Was about to try to download the US version, is this an option or will it just not work in the EU with a EU trial account.

Also if you know the required tags to post an image i'll post my error in full, the insert image tag does not seem to work today.

No the yankee version cannot be used it won't work, i made that mistake myself :D

Thats the error I get anyway.
The EU WoW forums are not loading up for me either. Im ready to take this as a sign from above to not play WoW, maybe a blessing in disguise.

@YoungBlood

Does the common.MPQ file actually exist on your system?

You could try downloading it from a different site, maybe their download is corrupt, either that or borrow the disks off someone.

google "warcraft common.MPQ" it seems this has happened before, i cant send a direct link from work.

When the installation fails it deletes the directory.

I have DL'd twice from the offical blizzard downloader, which seems to use P2P, which I didnt think could become corrupted as it's from so many different sources.
As far as I know my drives are fine, no errors and other downloads are not corrupting.
If you know of a mirror to get the client please post it, im on limited GB per month and these huge DL's failing make me cry.

Unfortunetly borrowing the cd is not an option as nobody I know plays WoW. I would try phoning Blizzards tech support but I cant access there forums to get the number. If there even is a tech support number?

ps. ty badgermonkey

I can post you my wow cd's as I no longer need them.

You would just need to purchase a new cd-key from Blizzard.

Well big thanks for the offer, but I just got back from town and picked a copy up. Didn't know it could be picked up so cheaply now.

It won't even install from the cd's, gets stuck on terrain.MPQ. I have tried copying the CD to the HD also as google suggests but it get's stuck on the same file. So /givesup im sure WoW is a great game but the universe does'nt want me to play it and who am I to argue :(

Guess I have a CD key now should it ever decide to work in the future, im suprised there are no mirrors for the EU client though. Also suprised the game was on 4 cd's and not a dvd, maybe it would have read a dvd ok.

Yeah, tried on a sata drive and a IDE drive. It will either freeze very early on in the installation or throw a *.MPQ data could not be verified.

Just reading the official forums now, seems it's pretty common to have difficulty's installing.

Just going to try installing in safe mode, as the forum suggests.

I can be used, but its not straight forward.

I had the US version on my laptop, and playing with one of the config files you could switch it to play on Euro servers.

But you could only patch from the US version so you had to switch back for every patch.

Cant remember where it was but all you had to change was the server address.

Weird that it wont install, do you have enough disk space free ?
have you tried checking the destination drive for any errors ?

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/kbtip.mspx

Any scratches on the CD ?
Dodgy cd rom drive ?

Not sure what else you could try, maybe get some software to turn the disk into an iso file (poweriso, magiciso), then use something like demon tools to mount the iso as a drive virtually and try installing it.

YoungBlood, are you Vista or XP?

It does sound like it's your computer playing up, I could see the download corrupting but the CDs as well?

Thanks for all the advice guys.
Im running XP, just tried safe mode and get the same error.

I have copied all the cd's to a folder on the desktop as it suggests on the offical forums, but the installation just freezes at about 2%.

If I try to install from the CD or the downloads, I get a data verification failed error. Makes no sense at all  recently installed SupCom and only friday installed C&C the last decade with no problems at all.

I have checked for errors using chkdsk and all is fine and there is plenty of free space.
I sure hope this game is worth all the hastle.

Its a random *.MPQ file that throws an error, seems to be a different one each time.
