Hi all,
so, got a Toshiba C660-12F laptop (i3-370, 8gb ram, 80gb SSD).
It went screwy so i tried a recovery from hdd, but as the original hdd was cloned onto the ssd it obviously doesn't like it and wont recover.

So, bottom line, i've reformatted from scratch back into win7 pro x64.
I've downloaded quite a bit of the Toshiba software from their website but i can't seem to get the function keys to work and i'm not sure which download to grab to enable them to work, they're pretty non-descript.

Anyone any ideas please? The function keys are pretty important really, so "you don't nee em" kind of answers won't be appreciated, thanks :)

Their help forums and FAQ's are pretty carp really, and it may be quicker posting here for help.

Thanks all.

Have you downloaded the Hotkey utilities for the laptop from Toshibas website?

Also check to see if TFNKY.exe and HKServe.exe ar running, i think these two services are for the fn keys.

yeah, but it wasn't listed for win7 pro x64, so i got the XP one and it failed to install with an error.

Can't see either of those in the Processes tab of taskmanager.

Your laptop maybe like mine (mines a HP but I've seen it on others)

The default in the bios is that the F key do other things - adjust brightness, open web browser, media controls, volume control etc etc.

To use the F key you need to also hold down the FN key as well.

I switched it off in the BIOS in the end as it was annoying.

Well it was a reformat of windows, so the bios should be unaffected.
I know about the FN key.
Our users aren't so bright, so i need the get the function keys working fo them so they can turn wifi on/off and attach their laptops to projectors etc when necessary.

The function keys on my lenovo would only work once I installed lenovo's own power management drivers and software.

It is different for each laptop and manufacturer. Best thing is to go on the Toshiba site and find all the drivers and software for your machine.

You may find one which looks like bloatware but actually enables your function keys as you want them.

Problem with that is that there's far too many, and i need to get this laptop back to the user. I hate bloatware.
I did search their website, and someone with a similar issue said that a certain progr contained the function key drivers. Well i've installed that and it didn't work. Their english was a little rough though so they may not have posted the correct wordage.

Well if you want to get to a fully working laptop then you will just have to do it.

It will be quicker to install the software than try and find the answer beyond what has been given. I would be impressed if even Toshiba could give you an accurate response without a 48 delay minimum whilst it gets refered back to their techs.

Just do a disk image now so you can roll back if needed.
