Hi all

I've had my Fury X back to OCUK for coil whine which had then gone back to Sapphire for testing. Just has a note that they were going to send out a replacement and then straight after that they don't have any more and can't fulfil the RMA replacement.

Any suggestions what I do now for a replacement card? It seems the RX480 is the best AMD have to offer currently but not quite as good as the Fury X was? How do the nVidia offerings compare currently?

Also, and annoyingly, I had an EK block on the Fury which is now totally useless and I'm sure not going to be refunded by OCUK, so really need something which I can also get a water block for, it seems there are now so many variants of every card and some have got blocks available and other not.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

Wouldn't accept an RX480 that's for sure unless cash was refunded on top, 1070's are around the price you'll have paid for your Fury X, although with the block you had on top you were probably around current cheaper 1080 pricing (£530).

I believe it will be a cash refund, but the initial RMA mentioned about depreciation and the refund price being adjusted for time product has been owned, which in my case it 1 year.

I'd looked at the 1070's but if I get less back for the Fury X and need another £100 for a waterblock it's going to cost more.

That's an awkward situation.

Vega will be here from March to June, no-one knows the exact date. It will hopefully really shake up the market, price wise.

I'd be temped to get the cash refund, get a cheap rx480 to tide you over until Vega launches, then buy a nice new next generation Vega card :)

You'll probably get a depreciated refund. Hopefully around the original value but I wouldn't be surprised if it's less than £200

Ask for XFX GTR black Edition GTX 480 + 80 notes with the Queen's head on it, that comes to an overal value of about £350. Fury X was a £500+ card on release, factor some deprecation I don't think that's unreasonable.

Well just come off the phone with them, refund of £425 being processed.

Was thinking of a GTX 1070 which is about that value, but then just got to pay the extra for the waterblock and backplate. Will think about it for now.

I think you have done alright there. Personally I'd get a 480 and re-sell it in a few months time when Vega arrives. You wont lose much on the 480 if you get a good one.

How much worse in performance is the RX 480 than the Fury X?

Take a look at the Hard[OCP] article about AMD drivers over time as they do a comparison with Fury X and 480

Here's the link

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2017/01/30/amd_video_card_driver_performance_review_fine_wine/

Fury X equates to anything from 6 - 18 FPS faster depending on the games. In Gears Of War it is 6FPS...in others it is more.

I suppose you could get yourself a cheap Fury/Fury X but then I think you would get a much better resale value on an RX480 (Especially an XFX GTR model).
:D

Do you have to watercool it? some of the 1070s have pretty decent stock coolers and in some cases even run silent 0db mode even in some more demanding games - you don't really gain much performance/overclocking wise from watercooling with these cards generally as you'll still be hitting the power target/voltage limit.

Same here, That's an acceptable refund so if it was me and I had to have a card while waiting for Vega I'd first look for a 290 or 290x for around 100 but if nothing decent is available like said grab an XFX 480 GTR XXX and it should sell easily enough if you decide to upgrade to Vega later on, The other option for you would be a 1070 as long as you don't have a freesync panel.

If you were happy with the Fury X, buy another one. You can get them really cheap these days and you'll still have a tidy amount left over from your refund and you'll get to use your waterblock.

Stock speeds and I mean 1126 core for RX480 and 1050 core for FuryX, around ~20%.

BUT, while you will struggle to overclock the FuryX by 10%, you can overclock a RX480 with a hefty 25% closing the gap fast.

Have a look here how Stock RX480 performs against a stock FuryX in numerous games with latest drivers.

Or do what AMDMatt said. Buy another FuryX

^ Rise of the tomb raider is about as bad as it gets for the Fury line up due to the high video memory requirements. For example if you look at the BF1 1080P results the Fury X is 44% faster than the RX 480.

Just submitted a ticket for my Fury X with Sapphire, my pump is about to die, it sounds like its chewing itself apart, not good given the card is 12.5 months old.

Going to fight for the same outcome you received.
