Well i introduced my self in the new members section and mentioned there that i will be starting a new build to allow me to play games like BF3 , MW3 and a few more FPS.

So i hope this list sounds like it is up to the job i am aiming for.

this is my list :-

MOBO - ASUS P8H61 - ML E
CPU - i5 2300 2.8GHz socket 1155
OS - Windows 7 home premium 64 bit
SSD - dedicated to Windows
and thinking about a second SSD for games and keeping my old HDD for picture storage and music. once i checked if it will fit new mobo
PSU i will be looking at 750watt or 800watt possibly
Memory - will be using 8GB of DDR3 at 1333MHz
GPU - i am looking at NVIDIA GTX 550Ti 1024MB GDDR5

I will need to check if i can fit all of this into my current case which was sourced from an other site a good few years back and currently houses an Asus P5N73 - CM which is also an uATX 9.6 inch x 8.4 inch ( 24.5 cm x 21.3 cm ).

And much further down the line i will be looking for an HD LED monitor that has to be wall mountable , as the monitor i have at the moment is up on the wall.

Welcome,

Have you got a budget? You might be able to afford a better system.
Is your old HDD SATA based of IDE?

The GTX 550ti is not really worth the money. You are much better off getting GTX 460 or (if you can add more money) a GTX 560ti.

No need for 2 SSD's either. A 64GB SSD can hold your OS and a few programs and games, easily.

No need for a 750W to 800W PSU. 500W-600W is fine.

EDIT: something like this:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-2400 3.10GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £154.99
1 x EVGA GeForce GTX 460 Superclocked 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £113.99
1 x Crucial RealSSD M4 64GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive (CT064M4SSD2) £86.99
1 x Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (GFC-02050) £79.99
1 x Asus P8H61-M Intel H61 Chipset (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard **B3 REVISION** £59.99
1 x G.Skill RipJaw 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Dual Channel Kit £39.95
1 x Samsung SH-S222AB/BEBE 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £18.98
Total : £566.88 (includes shipping : £10.00).

Hi thanks for that but budget is tight ,, what i listed in my first post is stretching it as it is.
and hoping to hold off and buy in parts bit at a time as i have no time scale either the only time scale i have is called patients lol.

the reason i mentioned the 750 - 800watt psu is before i joined this forum i had read on a review site that the GPU i was looking at needs 500watt or above.
and to be honest i am still a complete novice at self builds and thought eeek when i read that most GPU's need to be plugged into a psu as well as the stuff i run now the gpu just gets what it needs from the mobo thats how old it is lol.
So if i can get away with a lesser PSU then great , saves a bit more cash lol.

i believe my current HDD is SATA connection. i cant remember of by heart.

have a look at the BeQuiet Pure Power L7 530W '80 Plus' psu, could also check out the msi H61 mobo's, will save you some money to put towards the 460 gpu doom listed.

memory wise have a look at the OcUK Value 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 (£29.99 inc VAT).

Have you thought about OC`ing. You should get a stable 3.5-6Ghz with a good cooler. Buy a good Gpu, OS and SSD as recommended. Then, just keep saving until you have enough to buy i2500K, mobo, ram and case.
Search web also for good deals.

i have never looked into or considered OC'ing and more likely to do far more damage than good to be honest.
Plus the parts i have just now in this system will be going over into mums system.

before i found this site and forum i had seen a deal for the Asus mobo and i5 cpu , obviously i wont mention the site name.
But i am hoping to pick up bargains during 2012 as supposedly shops / sites will be trying to re coup some of the loss from this year.

if your buying in 2012 then it would be best to revive this thread in a few weeks time, because the new ATI graphics cards are coming out in january. while they will almost certainly be out of your price range, it could very easily bring a price drop for all the other graphics cards

in regards to budget , there is one and there is not one.
money is a bit tight and taken up else where , but no harm in saving.
and as i am not interested in taken up gaming to a huge extent i am not wanting to spend a lot of money if i wont use the specs to there full.

But i am hoping that come 2012 there is a price drop to items . after all i did laugh and nearly choked on my cuppa when i seen the mobo i have now the P5N73 you can buy it for around £20 in places lol.
it will be a case of searching and keeping eyes open for price dropping.

Well the build has started , at least the buying parts has started.

Ordered the ASUS P8H61-M yesterday evening and it arrived this afternoon
and have ordered up the G Skill RipJaw 8GB 2x4GB DDR3 PC3 1333MHz.
( they have both come from various sites )

but still leaves a fair bit to order up.
In regards to PSU's i am considering the Corsair GS600 80plus as i know when it comes to PSU's skimping on money is not a good idea at all. and it will be the most expense i have ever spent on a PSU before lol.

Hi Bee
i do not know what modular means really. as i am still a novice at self builds with only 1 self build under my belt. and this system will be the most i have ever spent on a pc let alone a self build lol.
i dont go for window cases or lights etc etc so dont really care about cables , led's etc.
so i dont need to worry about led effects or cable management as such.
i will have a look at the links you added.

A modular PSU is one which cables can be removed. The standard PSU has all the cables built in to it so you can't remove them, by having a modular one you can use just the cables and connectors you need.

Stoner81.

ah cheers for that Stoner :). i might have a look at modular ones then as i dont plan in using a lot of items. and i have been reading up that a lot of cables can have an effect on air flow.
seems the CX600 get a beaten on some reviews due to them making a noise, still plenty time to consider a normal PSU or the modular ones.

i am looking at buying an other cpu cooler rather than the standard intel one.
i have seen this Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro rev 2 Socket 775, 1156, 1155, 1366, AM2, AM3 Heatpipe CPU Cooler.
and wandering if it will fit the ASUS P8H61 - M ( Matx ) board as the memory slots are fairly close.
and my make of case has no name but i am assuming it would fit in my case as i do have a big fan on the side of the case.

yeah that one will be fine, it's a good cooler for the price and should help your system run a bit cooler/quieter than with a stock fan :)
EDIT: have you bought the CPU?
