Heyas, I want to get a new TFT, but I also want to get an identical one a few months down the line, which ones am I likely to be able to find in 6-9 months time?

I'm after 22-24" 1920x1080 with HDMI and DVI, preferably LED.
 
LG IPS231P.

~£150, IPS panel (the same as the U2311H), DVI and HDMI inputs, 23", 1920x1080. Done.
 
The OP doesn't just need the recommendation of a good monitor.

He needs the recommendation of a good monitor which will still be on sale in 6-9 moths time so they can get another one.

I don't have the answer and the answers given so far fail to address this point.

Given that the panel used in the IPS231P is the same as in the U2311H, and I expect will be the same as the one in the new Dell 23" IPS, I think he'd be in safe hands. Getting IPS or xVA screens will have more guarantee of longevity, as they're around much longer than TN screens, which are typically updated far more frequently.
 
Thanks for the comments, ideally, you're both right in suggestions, I am looking for a good monitor that will last a fair few years, but also one that will be on the market for a long time too, as I've oftern thought of upgrading my monitors (as I have a 19" and 26" currently) I'd have ideally bought another 26" - but can't find my model for love nor money, and I only bought it a year or so ago (Samsung T260HD)

Whilst the LG IPS231P is a good looking monitor, it's not got HDMI, which is a bit of a selling point as I don't require speakers, and also I can hook my consoles up to my monitors.

However! The IPS236V-PN seems to fit the bill quite nicely, HDMI, IPS, and under £140 from places, hopefully this monitor will be on the market for some time as this looks like a winner to me :)
 
I wouldn't recommend any of LG's recent IPS monitors if you are into your gaming. They may use the same panel as the U2311H, but the driving electronics are different and overdrive implementations are poor. What this means is that responsiveness isn't as good and you will find trailing a more frequent and palpable occurrence. On a subjective level the trailing of the IPS236V has been described as 'bothersome' by Prad.de whilst the measured response times were way out of specified - I mean usually this is the case, but not by this much.

TFT Central points out that the IPS231P offers what appears to be similar pixel performance to the NEC EA232WMI. I have reviewed the NEC model myself and have commented extensively on how it performs in the real world when it comes to gaming - and to be honest, that is its biggest weakness.

To add something a little more constructive - you shouldn't have a problem getting hold of most newly released monitors if you want another in under a year's time. You can still buy plenty of TN panel monitors from circa 2009 and the largest manufacturer, Samsung, generally keep their models for around 2-3 years before beginning the EOL process.

With regards to gaming, the only level of gaming I'll be doing is a bit of PS3 which wouldn't run at full FPS like the PC versions of games (I don't think?) and WoW (although the missus is slowly beating the geek out of me.)

Apart from that, it'll just be HD viewing on them. Given this, do you think would be a suitable, sub £170 monitor, that I'll be able to pick up a second of in coming months?
 
As you can see if you look at some of my previous posts on these forums I am quite fond of the Samsung B2430H as it seems to offer the best image and build quality for your budget. This model is from early 2010 if I recall correctly so it should still have some good shelf-life left in it yet. Having said that Samsung have recently launched a slew of monitors including the SA350 series and you can't always rely on past traditions and experiences when it comes to monitor availability. I am fairly confident the B2430H should be available this time next year but I am more certain that their new models, such as the S24A350H, will be available for even longer. The S24A350H comes in a little beyond your budget (around £180 last time I checked) but I would consider it an excellent monitor for the price, especially for gaming on the PC and consoles. I have covered this model on my website recently but it seems it has had little in the way of 'professional reviews'. Samsung have been really, really bad at giving review samples to UK reviewers lately so that's no surprise.

If you would prefer not to buy a Samsung, for whatever reason, OcUK have a nice range of Iiyama monitors. I've had good experiences with these in the past but I am not hugely up to date with the ins and outs of all of their models. Anything I say on these would have to be educated guesses but they are a solid company with some solid products.

Ok, after looking at all of the options, I really have no idea what I'm looking at, as I got my T260HD for free, and I just wanted to get shot of my old CRT. :)

Tell me what to buy, £160 budget, 22-24", bigger is better, thinner the better (in both profile\bezel), HDMI\DVI a must, and a second must be available to purchase in 3-6 months time.

To put it into perspective, I quite like the business range of Dell monitors. If they did them with HDMI, I'd be all over them, as they can be picked up for cheap, thin bezel, and good colour. I also find my T260HD is pretty good, the blacks aren't all that black when watching videos, but it's still pretty good, and games (I only play WoW, and seldom play CoD on my PS3 via HDMI) look\play fine on it.

PCM2, would you recommend, Acer 24" S243HLbmii ? It's a sleek looking design, and has everything which I want pretty much, and the price point too.
