cars are like everything these days. If it goes wrong, throw it away and buy another one.

The reason this makes sense to many is the state of the UK used car market not the cars themselves. Elsewhere in the world people dont do this.

THose certainly are not last generation, more like 5 generations ago and I would say already classics!

Good one, after most have been ruined by Fast and Furious, there arn't that many nice ones left let alone standard ones.

ep3 type R will probably be a nice collectors model in many years to come.

No to either of those. The Ep3 is what the Saxo VTR used to be years ago and neither of those will ever be classics.

DC2 will be and in a way already is, mine is insured as a 'future classic'. Low prices today and a lack of cars with many tatty examples mean many cars are being sold for cheap and/or broken, so with dwindling numbers and only a handful of truly good example left their value will go right up.

This isn't a Type-R war, just that EP3s are very very common these days and tbh just no where near as special or rare as a DC2. I could say the same thing as the Focus ST, very common now and will follow the same line as the EP3.

This is a good point actually. Wondering around the classic car show at the NEC there were examples of Ford Escort Mk2s, Capris and 'scene' modified Mk1 VW Polos. All three of those were cars I bought as a young man for £500 or less and are now classics worth ten times that in mint condition.

Cars today are built to a much higher standard compared to ones build in the 60's. There is no reason why a modern car wouldn't last long enough. An E-Type probably wasn't the best example as they had a tendency to massively overheat.

+1. If you look on http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/ you will see that quite a lot of them are were normal everyday cars back 30 ~ 40 years ago.

Disagree, the bold will become classics in 30-40 years, mark my words, rcz is a rare sports car from pug, the volvos will have a cult following, the 850r, 480 turbo and the sporty c30 model are lovely cars, the c70 has the novelty of being a good looking safe wafting volvo coupe, not quite a p1800 but the closest since.
