I'm looking to upgrade my computer within the next two months and will probably be getting a core i7. If I wait till the end of December, hopefully there will be a wider range of motherboards to choose from and therefore more competition to drive prices down.

However, this won't be the case with graphics cards and from what I read(on a review site I can't mention here), their prices are likely to keep on increasing and new stock will end up a lot more expensive (4870x2 at £400 apparently).

So my question is: is it better to get a graphics card now while retailers still have the cheaper stocks or should I still wait and see what happens. I'm looking at the 4870 1gb in particular.

Depends on the exchange rate. At the moment it is improving again so they should come back down.

The time to buy one was a month ago (hindsight is wonderful) when the dollar was 2 to the pound.
