Thinking of upgrading my motherboard from Socket 1155, is 2011 the way to go or are we about to change again?

Anyone know?

Andi.

Socket 2011 is likely to be replaced after IB-E. It was never a replacement for 1155, it ran alongside 1155 as the replacement for 1366.

Haswell desktop CPUs are on the 1150 socket.

+1 Right now Haswell's LGA 1150 socket is the most up-to-date

However, there are rumours that the next set of chips ("haswell refresh") will still use a LGA1150 socket - but the electronics will be changed (to accommodate the upcoming broadwell chips) and mean that "haswell refresh" (or broadwell) CPUs won't work in Z87 chipset boards.

Therefore, if you are happy with you sandy/ivy 1155 system then I wouldn't suggest upgrading to Z87 just to be ready for future CPUs - as more than likely Z87 is a dead end (typical intel).
