How long would my current system (sig) last roughly?

4-5 years?

My previous system lasted 4 years and it wasn't even an uber pc at the time! So I'm hoping this one'll last even longer :D

Depends on your outlook and what you want your PC to do.

I change/upgrade every few months.

I doubt in a years time you'll be able to run the games at full detail.

Gaming mainly. I've never been able to run any games at full GFX until now so it won't be something new if I can't next year. As long as it'll play the games at a decent rate, I'll be happy :)

Well.. when DX10 arrives.. your card will be out of date anyway :) :p

It's out of date as soon as you buy it. So aslong as you never buy you'll always be upto date when you're waiting to buy the next latest and greatest ¬_¬

you cant ever future proof in this industry nowdays mate, 4 ears ago it was different but gfx especially is moving far too fast compared to yesteryear. best to just get what you can when you can and be happy, once youve lost the happiness then look around for upgrades. that rig is pretty high level so if youre not trying to remain at that level throughout your pc gaming then it should last quite some time

Yes im afraid to say your system is "carp" :D

Give it to me and buy a new one :D

That should see you through for quite a while with current games and lets face it game producers are not going to rush into launching DX10 only games as they know the market will be tiny for quite sometime.

My rig (in sig) was top-end 2 yrs ago, but it still plays everything at reasonable settings.
However, there have been no major advances in the past 2 years (my card supports SM3.0, which makes it 'current gen'), but the introduction of DX10 will make all current gfx hardware 'last gen'. In 2 yrs time, there will be games that require a DX10 card to get the full effect (like SM3.0 is required in some games now).
That's why I'm holding back for conroe & DX10 before I move to PCI-E. I reckon a DX10 rig will last 4 yrs.

Anyone who invests in the first round of DX10 hardware/software are absolutley mad. Its going to take a year for things to settle down.

There is no way the first gen hardware will last 4 years. Its going to be the blind leading the blind. Best just sit back and watch, IMHO.

Agreed, also wait till they bring out the 2nd revisions of AM2 / conroe boards unless u like being a light pocketed guinea pig.
