hey guys,

after some deliberation on these forums, I am really considering a move to intel. What I would like to know is what is the best option for a cheaper build for gaming/browsing/spotify etc..?

Would a 2500k-2600k be suitable to be fast on the OS and games? Would I need to repurchase a copy of windows and erase an SSD im using ATM?

thanks guys,

What resolution do you play, 1080p, 1440p or greater?

Have you overclocked the CPU?

Chances are that at 1080, 1440, you may gain a few FPS from a change but it will largely be unnoticeable 120fps against 100fps for example. Depends which games you play.

Probably not worthwhile to upgrade to Sandybridge gen. unless overall it does not cost more than about £50 after you sell on the 8350.

Wait until the FX8350 really gets bottlenecked in games, there may be more choice for new AMD CPU or later gen Intel then.

hey @nkata

i am gaming at 1080p. the cpu is overclocked to a non boost of 4.3ghz.it is running well, its just ARMA that is causing the issue of low FPS.

good shout on next-gen. think i might hold out till then, as i cant really afford to upgrade cpu, ram and the mobo.

Personally for an older gen I5 I wouldn't bother, you'll see little difference @ 1080P and you will lose some productivity in certain apps. What is the refresh rate of your monitor?

Arma runs poorly on my 5820k. My friend gets slightly better fps on his 6700k (to be expected), but its still not great

1080p 144HZ screen? You want an Intel CPU, you're going for maximum frame rate, not "good enough".

I wouldn't really want to move from an FX8350 to a Sandy Bridge i7 these days, let alone an i5 2500K. But a Haswell or Skylake i7 would be the target.

I'm not sure why you've got a GTX1070 if you've got a Freesync screen though, although it's not like AMD help the situation with a dismal choice of GPU's. Still stuck on my 290X and refuse to buy Nvidia.
