FX 8370 vs G4400

My current system is a Skylake based system but the CPU is rather low end. I'm thinking about getting an FX 8370 based system. I think an FX 8370 would be a huge performance boost over the G4400 currently in my system. Upgrading further down the Skylake line would be too expensive for me. On an Intel equivalent, what are the 8370 compared to?

Just get an i5 6400, would knock the socks off the 8370.

Why would you want to downgrade from the latest socket with the latest features to an ancient obsolete platform? Just drop a i5 in there and it will wipe the floor with AMD's current efforts.

What part of "upgrading further down the Skylake line would be too expensive for me" didn't you understand?

What motherboard have you got OP? £100 would get you an i3-6100 which might be a nice little upgrade for the clock speed boost and hyperthreading.

Your best option by far though is to save up for an i5.

The amount of faff to change motherboard and RAM plus the money you'll lose buying and selling make leaving Skylake a bad idea.

hmm this is a tough choice, ditch latest skylake, and replace with obsolete AMD (with CPU often poorly optimised in games)

no brainer really...

What's with the aggression? You suggest a i3 and at the end of your post you suggest saving for a i5 so you obviously don't understand either!!

You do realise that buying a 8370 plus mobo will be more expensive than dropping a i5 in his current mobo.

Sorry, didn't mean it that way. When you wrote "Just drop a i5 in there" I assumed you'd missed the part about budget.

We're in agreement about sticking to LGA1151.

ask if anyone getting rid of computers for nothing, i jut got a q6600 mild gaming computer for jack all as they havent used it for ages lol.

otherwise stick to skylake for now

Yeah i would wait until new AMD stuff comes out if you dont wanna carry on with intel, the amd stuff is just too old to buy into.

Go home OP, you're drunk :P

But seriously though as others have said - stick to Skylake. It would cost you more to switch to AMD, would be older tech, and is generally just a bad idea at this point in time. If you *have* to switch to AMD, wait until Zen.

I have thought about holding off for Zen and I think I just might do that now. With the new motherboards being released for the AM3+ socket, I thought there was some new life in the FX series stuff.

All of those need cpu grunt and that's where Intel wins massively. What you are considering is a downgrade. Buy a i5 for your current board and get a nice upgrade. It will be cheaper than swapping to a outdated AMD setup too.
