OK soooo been playing for years and years but FX we're not summert I ever got into.

I wanna go further with making my own sound but I have no clue where to start.

Like what the hell does a phazer do? If I have a delay/chorus on my amp already do I really need a pedal for that?

Also whats the best sounding distortion in your opinion.. been told the RAT is good but like I said.. no clue.

Stuff like that

Phasers add a whooshing sound to your guitar - like a jet plane flying through your amp :) If you're a Stone Roses fan (or even if you ain't) listen to 'Made Of Stone' - specifically at about 3 minutes in.

There are literally hundreds of distortion / overdrive pedals. And liking them is as subjective as which guitar you like. Obviously there are some rubbish ones, great ones, some great cheap ones (EHX Double Muff), great expensive ones (Zvex Box Of Rock) and any and all in between.

Chorus is a nice effect if used very sparingly. It adds a thickness and sparkle to your sound.

It's great fun trying out loads of effects and messing about. However, they often get overused by guitarists in love with their stomp boxes, so I would advise after going mad for a while, choose the ones you like / need, then be subtle with them.

Some amp effects are good and will be better than really cheap pedal versions. You simply have to compare and decide.
