tonight decided to take a look at windows 8 preview. ran the windows experience index and my cpu came out at 7.9 compared to 7.7 in windows 7. they claimed win8 would suit the chip better and it seems that way to me

couple of things - wei score max in win 8 is now 9.9 as opposed to 7.9. not sure how/if that affects the scores you get from one to another. also, win8 is supposed to use all cores in the os, so wouldn't be surprised if the nearly 8-core chip you have actually performed better

WEI is the most useless benchmark ever. Sorry, but your bulldozer is just as slow as it was before.

yes is the preview version from Microsoft. wasn't intended as a benchmark. just a comparison between the two os with the same processer especially as its claimed to be more favourable to the bulldozer

WEI belongs in the 'unreliable benchmarks bin' along with Passmark. Sorry to say, but your Bulldozer will still have terrible IPC compared to Intel's offerings at the same price.

IPC is only relevant if both samples clock the same. if an architecture is optimised for clocks it should be able to hit higher clocks than a competing lower clocked but higher IPC one.

So far this hasn't happened. Time will tell about the future.

Except Bulldozer isn't outclocking SB 24/7 so IPC's very relevant, especially when it can't outclock previous CPU's to make up for its IPC deficit.

Ugh, I see the bull**** crew are around again.... Can we haz moar +1 posts pleeezze. Its so l33t and cool man....

81** series suits multi-threaded scenarios whereas Intel chips are better at less threads. Depending on your work load Bulldozer would have been a decent choice apart from the fact it sucks so much power but if you aren't bothered about that then happy days.

If only devs would start using the FMA instuctions.....

Well then, that's a 95% advantage to Intel then...

Derpdozer..for the remaining 5% of scenarios,so glad that 4yrs development, billions of dollars worth of R&D was so well spent, such an epic win.

FX8 beats the (overpriced) 3930k?

Didn't think so.

AMD aren't better in any situation performance wise, they can however in some cases (like 5% of situations) offer better bang/buck.
But I'd rather have a Phenom II X8 than an FX8 :p

I use mainly a phenom ii x4 965, I bought that cpu over a bulldozer, it was this or a fx4100 and not only was the x4 cheaper but its faster in any benchmark I've seen. I do mostly content creation and gaming on this pc and need a good mix of single and multithreaded performance and the older phenom ii is a solid and predictable performer where bulldozer can be hit or miss depending on the app.

when I want best performance multithreaded or not I use my 3930k, clocks up to 4.8ghz and offers almost double the performance the best bulldozer can. Amd have nothing at any price point that is a better buy than intels offering right now. That will change, the way amd are going with the apu's and pushing opencl one day the idea behind bulldozer will make sense, but not within its lifetime.
