Hey Guys,

I am having trouble booting the XMP profile of the GSkill trident z5 memory at XMP 1 or 2.
The motherboard I have is on the QVL so not sure why it won't load.

I am on a 12900KF, Asus Strix Gaming WIFI Mobo

Did any of you have to mess around manual speeds to get this to boot?
I am on the latest August 2022 bios too.

Yes memory and mobo are on qvl list. I can set the voltages manually but not sure what settings to use

Rog strix z690-f gaming Wi-Fi
Well try manually setting it to stock voltage.

Some motherboards can not set the voltage properly and the auto settings can be off.

Also manually set the SOC voltage. I’ll try get a guide for you to follow.

Either your CPU's IMC is very bad, or the RAM is faulty.

You need to find someone (or a shop etc) with another Z690 board/CPU to test your RAM with, another one on the QVL list. That, or obtain another CPU to test with, the majority can do 6400Mhz without issue, but some can't.

I think that it might just be easier to try better bios settings first.

it’s easier and quicker than the rest of the options you mentioned and it could be a buggy BIOS version.

I agree that it *should* just work with XMP but DDR5 is very new and it wouldn’t be the first time XMP hasn’t worked before without a little help.

Failing a manual tune of the BIOS, then yes, 100% RMA.

I've had DDR5 in my system for a year, it's not very new. Perhaps your thinking of AM5? That's very new.

Also, if he can't identify the faulty component (by testing in the way I suggested) he'd have to RMA CPU, motherboard and RAM, which would be a big pain. Identifying the component with the issue means less time and expense, as only have to return one item.

Jesus... so like an absolute egit I went off prior muscle memory and put the ram in slots 2/4 instead of what the mobo manual suggested.. 1/3..

Up and running now at full fat xmp - sorry for being so ultra slow :D

I have these exact same DIMMs in my Z690

But it's not setting them correctly. XMP II is enabled in the BIOS and clearly states:

DDR5-6400 32-39-39-102-1.40V

However, when using CPU-Z I can see they are set at 38-38-38-109

Any idea why it's not using the correct, faster, XMP setting?

Edit - XMP I seems to set them correctly...I thought XMP II was better?

Can depend on your rams xmp profiles, some have 2 different xmp profiles. Some are both the same
