Hi

I bought 2gig of the Gskill that's on the deal of the week right now to fit into my AM2/Sempron (ahem) based system. Anyways, Before I replaced my existing ram, I set all of the memory timings etc to 'Auto' in the bios (not an expert, thought this was just the safest way).

Anyway, popped the memory in, and the system wouldn't boot. No beep codes, nothing, just the fans whirring away. I've tried it with either stick on it's own and tried different slots, still nothing. I updated the bios from the Sapphire website (mobo is the Pure Element matx thing) still nothing, but when I put the original memory (ocz 5400 value) it works fine. I assume it's not the psu as I'm running with an Antec NSK4400 and the 380w one that comes with it. Surely this should cope with a sempron, DVDRW, onboard gfx and one stick of ram?

Anyway, does anyone have any ideas? Cheers.

do you have any mates you can test the ram with, and what voltage does the mobo deliver to the ram (undervolting can cause probs).

Strange that there arent any error beeps at all though......

If you set the bios to it's defaults it gives 1.8v. Tried this up to 2.0v but still the same.. No, don't really know anyone who has a system that utilises DDR2 unfortunately.

I mate

if your GSkill are LA series they are incompatible with AM2 chipsets
( and some more series of GSkill are incompatibles ones with AM2 others with Conroe´s)

only way is to put the problem to the seller and exchage it

These?

Only in the description it says:

G.Skill, the well known extreme performance provider, today announces the new naming rule. It helps the users can distinguish the product specification through the new model name. G.Skill also launches the new DDR2-800 CL5-5-5-15 memory, F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ, with the new naming rule. No matter you are using Intel or AMD latest DDR2 platform, GSkill F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ all can support.

So shouldn't be a problem?

no

that ones on the link, are HK series
about that ones I do not have feedbacks
I cant help you on that, sorry

The ones that i now , that are incompatible with AM2 are GSkill DDR2 PC2 4200 LA series and DDR2 PC2 5400 LA series

but GSkill have AM2 certified memory- like DDR2 800 PC 2 6400 NR series

seems to me ,that Gskill have diferent kind of memory ,ones designed for AM2 ,other´s for Intel ,other´s for conroes and now ,ones designed for ATI chipsets!!

You must confirme that with your vendor, surely they help you to sort that out.

I remember something now

one time I have a problem almost like you have now

try that:

with the working module, enter the bios and set the ram timmings to manual

then set timmings to 15-5-5-5 and Vdimm to 1.8/ 1.9V
( because that are the defaults for your GSkill ram)

then save and exit bios
when pc is restarting shutdown the sistem( wiyh power button)

then insert the GSkill modules and power on the pc again

give that a shot ,and see if thing´s change :)

Tried all of that but nothing doing. I'vr tried both sticks seperately with the same result. Both can't be borked can they? Like I say, I have a 512mb stick of 5400 OCZ stuff working fine which is odd.

Anyone have any more ideas before I have to send it back and get laughed at for making a schoolboy error when it turns out to be fine?
