G.Skill Trident 6GB overclocking

Raise the RAM multiplier and give it more Vtt would be a good place to start.

If you're using 200 Bclk for your 4GHz o/c, then raising the RAM's multi to 10x will give you 2000MHz, but you will need to play around with the voltages to get this stable.

I've heard a lot of people say that it can be quite difficult getting RAM to run at 2000MHz, and that you need a chip with a really good IMC before this can be done, whether this is correct or not I can't be sure, I'm just repeating what I've heard on various forums.

Thanks, i got ram on auto at 1.65 volts is it save to go a little past that? in order to reach 2000mhz or near

Your RAM is rated to run at 1600MHz 9-9-9-24 using 1.65v.

To overclock it you will need more volts to the RAM & the CPU + QPI.

Intel don't recommend anything over 1.65v on the RAM so you are putting your hardware at risk for a performance boost that you won't actually notice.

I have got some RAM that is rated at 2000MHz 8-8-8-24 but I can not get it to run at that speed with a 4GHz overclock. Like DavyBoy said, due to the limitations of the IMC of the i7 it is very difficult to get RAM to run at 2000MHz without some sort of uber-cooling (so you can push the volts right up), or amazingly good luck.

Save yourself the bother and stick with 1600MHz.
