G-Sync, Free-sync or No-sync?

Are you likely to buy Nvidia again or switch to AMD?

I'm in the same boat and leaning heavily towards G-Sync as I doubt I'll buy a new GPU for a couple of years and I quite like Nvidia.

Well, it does seem like a tough choice to spend and extra £100 for Gsync, but effetively it gives you the equivalent of a GPU boost as well, and it will carry over to future GPU upgrades as well

the one thing to be sure of though - 1080p at 27" is a bit hard on the eyes to some - what size monitor do you have now? as you are going to be spending nearly £400 for a 1080p gsync monitor now, it might be worth considering the step up to a 1440p gsync monitor, it is another step up again in cost, but a 1440p monitor will last you so much longer than a 27" 1080p one which you might get bored of

if you currently have a 24" 1080p and are looking to go to 27", at least consider a 1440p one, this is an amazing deal right now;

if it has to be 27" 1080p the there is this one

or if you are willing to consider 24" there is this

but of those three, the 1440p dell and the 24" Acer seem pretty good value compared with the 27" 1080p one

I've heard that Radeon are actually doing better GPU cards for cheaper I think its the R9 vs 970. So I'm not sure if I will ever switch. Can I use a freesync monitor with an Nvidia card?

I only have a GTX 970. So i'm not sure how 1440p would run on it? Also i have a 46" Samsung 1080p and have played Battlefield on it a few times with no problems. It's just sometimes on my 23.5 inch im straining my eyes to try and look certain distances.

I try to avoid Acer as they often dont have the greatest reviews.

The Dell monitor looks fantastic!!:eek:

you can use it as a normal monitor, but obviously freesync itself won't work with an nvidia GPU

and yeah, the Dell is an awesome price... you can also run it at 1080p, and although the image will look slightly soft, you won't get that slightly screen door effect that you can get with a 27" 1080p monitor if sitting up close

all in all I think if you get the dell then that will be a monitor you can keep for 5 years and not want to upgrade, where as I think if you get a 1080p monitor now, then when you do upgrade your gpu you are going to wish you'd gotten a better monitor in the first place

I will consider 1440p now! Thank you :)

Yes but you won't get the Freesync benefits.

AMD = Freesync
Nvidia = G-Sync

The 27" Dell looks great, If the offer is on after New Year I may well go that way myself if I don't get the AOC 24".

If you're on any kind of budget you're almost certainly better off spending the premium that G-Synch costs over VESA adaptive synch (for no performance benefit and worse connectivity and input lag) on better graphics cards.

The typical £150-200 premium is ludicrous.

Literally nothing you just said is true

Freesync, £455, DP, DVI, HDMI

Gsync, £455, DP, HDMI, USB3.0 Hub

Everything I said is true, and the Dell is the only exception in pricing and has no non-GSync analogue. £150-200 is typical premium for G-Sync version of non monitors, as you well know. If that changes, great, but it's the current status quo.

If I wanted to play your game, I could easily just say that OCUK had the Acer XG270HU for under £300 (same panel) when they still stocked it. Freesynch for over £150 less on the same panel as the Dell.

The OP is asking for help choosing a 27" monitor right now, I'm actually giving him examples of what he can buy now, so how is that "playing games"?
He has an nvidia card, so how is buying an identically priced freesync monitor going to save him money exactly?

You came in to a "help me" thread just to trash it with nonsense instead of actually offering any sensible advice.

As you have an Nvidia card I'd highly recommend buying a G-Sync monitor, The new Dell looks to be a winner :)

It definitely looks a winner! Checked on youtube and the thin edges look great!

If I were to use the dell (1440p) in a game at 1080p. what exactly would happen? Would it just be like a normal 1080p screen? Or would it shrink screen size?

It would look like a normal 1080P screen across 27 inches :)
