** G-SYNC IS NEARLY HERE & MANY NEW MONITORS FROM AOC!! **

Well the gsync module will likely be a fair chunk of the extra value, then there's the premium early adoption price of any new technology.

If you don't mind waiting you'll probably get them £100 cheaper within 6-12 months.

Gsync high refresh monitors tend to also include 3d, so to directly compare the cost of gsync alone i guess it would be fairer to compare a 3d vision monitor which looks more like £280
Except that both monitors are 144Hz :p Anyway, I guess GSync is pretty rare atm so I can understand why people will pay a premium

Do you think we'll have to wait long for Vesa's Adaptive Sync? That may be more cost effective! Mind you, depends if Nvidia make their upcoming cards compatible. With their G-sync tech, I'm not sure :\

Has anyone got the AOC G2460FQ? At that price it seems like it could be well worth a try.

Haven't managed to find any reviews for it yet.

P.s. Does anyone know if this monitor have a flicker free backlight? I don't see it mentioned anywhere.

As far as I've been able to find out the AOC monitors don't have a flicker free backlight. :( Which is disappointing as they look a solid buy in all other aspects.

Which models are you referring to? The q2460Pqu I tested a while back lacked this but all of AOC's recent models I've tested do have flicker-free backlights. I'd be fairly surprised if the g2460Pg doesn't. The g2770Pqu I'm currently testing does, for example. So does the q2770Pqu, i2276Vwm, i2473Pwy, i2460Pxqu, q2963Pm and likely many others recent models I haven't tested.

I'm not noticing any flicker. I'm using this test: http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/inversion.php#invpattern

I can't see any flicker at all. I haven't seen flicker before so I'm not 100% what to look for but if it is there I can't detect it.

Inversion flicker is something else. Use this test and look for changes as you lower the brightness from 100. Follow the moving line with your eyes (use Google Chrome or Firefox if you have them). If you see multiple instances of each line at 0 brightness, for example, but it appears smooth at 100 brightness - PWM is used. If each line always appears as one smooth blur then PWM is likely not used.

Ok followed your instructions as best I could and pwm looks to be in use. It doesn't bother me though because I use a fairly high brightness and don't see any flicker.

Edit: also the osd on this is pretty horrible, looks to have been cobbled together quickly specifically for this gsync display and it shows. The osd on their other similar monitors looks much better.

AOC G2460PG, though I can't actually find where I read it didn't have a flicker free backlight. (I do remember when I read it that I wanted some confirmation because I only saw it mentioned in one place)

On a side note does anyone know if that AOC G2460PG has a matte/anti-glare screen/coating?

That's interesting, thanks for confirming. It does have to be stressed that many users worry unnecessarily about whether a monitor uses a flicker-free backlight. For most users there are no ill effects and they worry unnecessarily.

I haven't seen any confirmation of whether the g2460Pg uses PWM regulation or not - other than aidanr above seeming to confirm that it does use PWM. Somebody elsewhere may have made an inference that it used PWM based on the fact the g2460Pqu does (the close model numbers can cause some confusion). Anyway, the screen surface is matte just like the other 144Hz models.

Unfortunatly I appear to be sensitive to pwm flicker as it gives me headaches, so flicker free backlight is high up my list of requirements now.
