Are there any good ones?

The ASUS PG279Q ROG Swift 27" 165HZ looked interesting but it seems like an old monitor now and there was/is issues with quality.

I really don't know anything about monitors but was always under the impression IPS was the best choice.

So I guess the question(s) is what G-Sync is best, is G-Sync worth it if you are sacrificing quality, what alternatives are there, ultra wide?

and another question...

If you buy a monitor and are unhappy with it, can you send it back or can you only do that if there is a specific fault?

I used the Acer equivalent for a time and it was brilliant for gaming. There are QA issues with all monitors it seems and some of these were not good but a good one is a great gaming monitor. G-sync has been the best gaming upgrade I have done for many years. Had nothing but a great experience with it. Currently using an ultrawide and it is very immersive for certain games. The aspect ratio is generally well supported now too.

You can return it if you are unhappy (14 days at OCUK I believe) but unless the retailer accepts whatever the issue is as a fault, you'd need to pay for shipping to return the monitor.

So it's a case of being lucky with the Asus?

Did you get a G-Syne ultra wide? a friend had an ultrawide a year or 2 ago and sold it as not many games supported it. Has that changed now? also the ultrawide seems very narrow (losing a lot on height)?

G-Sync ultrawide and I haven't had any problems really with game support for some time. From recent memory Dishonored 2, AC Origins, Pillar of Eternity, Divinity, Kingdom Come, Total War: Warhammer, RE7, Mass Effect Andromeda, Vampyr all just ran out of the box.

I currently have a ASUS PG279Q ROG Swift 27" 165HZ, this is the 5th one in 1 month and still not happy so im getting a refund from the manufacturer! yay!

not sure what i will go for next.

OK that's not a good sign then!

I probably should have mentioned this is to be used on a decent system with a 1080ti but I'm not sure what res/fps that is capable of really.

Does G-Sync really make much difference if you're not doing competitive gaming?

Why is it these monitors have a problem? I've not purchased a monitor for years but my last Dell IPS (non G-Sync) was excellent.

If you're okay with TN based monitors, the Dell S2716DG is decent. But you want better colour and contrast, the LG 32GK850G is probably the one to get. All the IPS based monitors struggle with QC

For me it's the reduction of screen tearing, and the smoothing out of erratic framerate drops that makes the tech worth it's weight in gold. With a 1080Ti you can crank up the details to max and g-sync will help with the inevitable framerate dips. It's the difference between a jarring grind down to lower fps where it bounces and wobbles, against a smooth transition that makes you double take at what you're seeing to ensure the frames have actually decreased.
I suppose it needs to be experienced to appreciate. Be careful tho, if you're quite tolerant of the above issues it may not be worth it because you won't wanna come back from it. For me playing with g-sync off is horrendous and I can tell within seconds it's off.

I can't comment on the colour quality of the LG, but I would never use a 1440p at anything above 27". The Dell was arguably best in class at the time and the support makes it worth it above any other vendor.

A 32 inch 1440p monitor still looks really sharp :) I wouldn't discount it entirely as it arguably offers the best gaming experience out of all the 16:9 monitors (bar the new 4K 120Hz monitors)

I keep harping on about this one, but check out the LG 32GK850G. There's a great review on TFT Central also. It's VA but one of the best examples out there. I had no bleed on mine, no issues with smearing or ghosting in games, blacks are excellent, colour reproduction is very close to my X34 IPS panel, and it's native 144Hz (165Hz OC) with G-Sync. I'd argue one of the best gaming G-Sync monitors you can buy right now, especially for the price. With anything else, IPS ultrawides especially, whilst they have added immersion, you're not going to be able to avoid a certain amount of BLB which can be very annoying at times. Blacks won't be as good either. The forthcoming LG 34GK950G might be worth a look, but it's going to be near twice the price of the 850G. I wouldn't worry about lack of sharpness on 32" at 1440p, it's really not bad. Yes there is a difference, but you'd never say it was 'soft' exactly, it's just slightly less sharp than 27".

Right. I mean if you've played @1080p on a 24" monitor its basically the same PPI as 1440p @ 32". So its not like its potato quality... :)

I wonder why that LG monitor isn't more widely available.?
For what it offers, especially with Gsync, it doesn't seem a bad price. Whether quality is consistent and not the usual panel lottery luck of the draw, is another matter

Beats me, but it could be as sadbuttrue says. There's no doubting it's an excellent monitor... just look at the professional and user reviews alike, they are all very consistently positive, far more so than most other monitors it would seem. It's hard to find a bad word about the 32GK850G.

A cunning plan then by LG eh..!

It would be good to see it more widely available. I haven't had the best of luck when it comes to buying a monitor that I would call a keeper.
