hi I'm returning back to desktops from laptops and am going to get a 24" monitor but can't decide between g sync or 4k, it will be considered to a 1080gtx

How much do you want to spend ? I would take 144hz and gsync over 4k any day of the week. if you were playing high graphics games like BF1 with that card and 4k you will get around 60fps but if you got a 1440p monitor you would be getting around 120fps. If you wont be playing fps games then having such I high frame rate wont be as important.

Not much point going 4k if you really really only want 24". Is there a reason you want 24"?

Also, there are obvioulsy 4k Gsync monitors out there, so you can have both.

Budget???

P.S. I'm a bit of a monitor whore and have tried most permutations. Hands down the best gaming experience at the moment is Superwide 3440x1440, 100Hz with Gsync. Like the X34 I'm currently using, or the v similar Asus pg348Q.

24" 1440p or even worse 4k is not that good imo.
If you're going for 1440p, i and a lot of other people on here would recommend a 27". And 32" for 4k.

But to answer your question, gsync over 4k with no gsync. Sweet spot atm for something with gsync with your card is a 1440p, 144Hz/165, gsync display, IPS or TN - up to you and your budget.

At that size 4k isn't as good.

I have 27" 4k and I sometimes wish I spent the extra on 32"

Plus 1080 can only just manage 4k, the next generation of gpu may make 4k at >60fps possible.

1440p and higher refresh might be better, especially at 24" and your 1080 will power that easily.

There is no point getting a 4k 24" display, that is far too small for that kind of resolution, I would say 27" minimum for 4K.

Also I'm not sure what your budget is but if your pairing it with a 1080gtx that is a pretty high end system so I wouldn't skimp on the screen as that is one of the most important components, I would be aiming for a 1440p 27" monitor really as a minimum, preferably a g-sync model, but if you are really after just a 24" then I would definitely go for a 144hz panel.

i think I paid about £465 for 27" Dell version back in march 2016 but I agree all monitors have gone up by around £150 - £200 I know the £ is worth less but not that much difference. I can say that the Dell 27" gsync is very very good so no reason why the 24" would not be good. not sure what 1440p on 24" would look like though.

If you can afford the Dell S2716DG you should go for it. Maybe wait till it goes on a deal. The current price looks like the highest it's been. It may drop closer to £500 if your lucky.
