So got myself the acer XB271HU

am i supposed to set each game to the highest framerate possible i'm setting most games to 144hz, some only have options for 90 hz and some 60hz metal gear solid only allows 60FPS. Settings are just confusing me do i still need to select vsync on and in the nvidia control panel there is setting for fullscreen only and borderless full screen windowed. I've had a look for some sort of guide to it but didn't find much to really help out.

Ideally you want to uncap the game and just enable the G-Sync option in the Nvidia Control Panel - full-screen not border-less.

This - basically disable V-Sync in the game if there is an option for it, and when G-Sync is enabled in the NCP it will also set V-Sync to on by default. I usually go into the settings for individual games and check that G-Sync and V-Sync are enabled there, and also set the power management to maximum performance and refresh rate to max available. Also it's best to set your refresh rate in the NCP to 144Hz or whatever is the maximum for your monitor, before jumping into a game.

There are some exceptions, for example with Forza 6, I disabled G-Sync and set my refresh to 60Hz, and jusr run it with V-Sync enabled in the game.

With recent drivers if a game is capped to a certain framerate you may find you get lower latency with V-Sync off while G-Sync is enabled - not sure if its intentional or a bug but G-Sync On + V-Sync On doesn't seem to be working quite right with 368 drivers.

Thanks for the tip :)

reading nvidias website it says that gsync does not play well with some games and if thats the case they disable it on a driver level. but they havent produced a list of these games, so how are we supposed to know which ones work and which don't. it's all a bit confusing lol
Q: Does NVIDIA G-SYNC work for all games?
A: NVIDIA G-SYNC works with all games. However, we have found some games that do not behave well and for those, we recommend that users take advantage of our control panel’s ability to disable G-SYNC per game. Games that NVIDIA discovers that have trouble with G-SYNC will be disabled by default in our driver.

Is there not some on screen thing to show it's working that we can turn on and off like afterburners OSD i just turn it on and off in game by hitting home.

I've not found a game yet that it doesn't work properly with - it used to have some problems with 1-2 that used weird methods to do fullscreen but now they've added window mode G-Sync that is no longer a problem.

You might find in specific circumstances Window mode G-Sync enabled causes rendering bugs on the desktop - shouldn't happen in Windows 10 with a newer version of WDDM though.

I think will have to wait for the game developers to catch up

On my monitor it shows whether G-Sync is enabled as well as the resolution and refresh rate in its menu, which is quite useful because G-Sync sometimes disables itself if I leave the PC inactive for too long.

There is an indicator you can turn on for G-Sync and also on most monitors the OSD or LED will have some kind of indication of whether G-Sync is engaged or not - on my ROG Swift the power LED turned to a deep red if G-Sync was working.

lol... gota love the way Nvidia use technicalities to say yes to a question that should be no. :D

On this topic, why does Vsync enable itself in the Global Settings every restart? I don't want to use Vsync and will cap FPS at 144 using RTTS to prevent tearing above refresh rate, but I need to disable it each time.

I've got the acer XB271HU and cant see anything at all to see if it's working. Is there nothing on a driver level, i remember seeing some gsync video a while back and when they were playing games it said gsync in the corner like a little OSD.

When you go into the "Setup G-Sync" part of the nVidia control panel the Display entry in the menu bar will change to include an option to toggle the on-screen indicator.

Yeah, can this be toggled on and off in game at all Rroff?

It was so much better when the led setting on the ROG Swift would let you know if gsync was active. But now it is red all the time, as I understand they changed the way in which gsync interacts with Windown.

Don't think it can but I've not really explored that option - would be useful if you could toggle it with a hotkey.

You don't need to disable it in nvcp as it only switches to it above the monitors refresh. The rest of the time gsync is active. There's some conflicting info on when exactly vsync takes over as well as different games not liking certain framerate caps. I stick to 120 to be on the safe side as its well under 144 and it seems to be possibly less likely to result in odd game behavior given its exactly double default refresh. I'll use fastsync shortly outside of fps once it's hopefully improved. I honestly can't notice any difference between 120-144 fps anyway.
