Looking to buy a g30 touring

Max budget 25k

Looking at a 520d 2018 msport as budget doesn’t quite stretch to a 30d and it’s for work so the 6 pot is in the nice to have category but not essential

What are the must have options

I assume pro nav and HK are two must haves but anything else?

Had a major stop and look at 530e rather than a 530d

unfortunately it’s for work purposes so airport taxi. Might be great for local town work and has a unique eco selling point buwhats the real world range and running costs when you have to say do home to Glasgow to Aberdeen and back Does the 530e charge whilst running

80% of the miles will be trundling down a motorway at 70-75mph

what’s the thoughts on mpg in those sort of use cases?

obviusly a 520d wins hands down but that’s boring as anything so 250bhp petrol hybrid or 260bhp 3.0d

email back from BMW this morning

hoping some of the more knowledgable here will spot anything interesting

only thing that really got my attention was the active cruise(that was one of my main things when car hunting)
my understanding is that car play can be added to the pro nav anyone care to confirm?

and Fox yes the 4d plates are god awful and will be removed as soon as possible (private plate to go on)

getting on a bit now dont really fancy doing the stupid 20+ hour days i used to do. its mainly going to be cover for the taxi business and a bit of exec stuff pootling between edinburgh and Glasgow with the odd jaunt north and south as required.

i really wanted a 530d but the market is really changing and a lot of clients are at least expecting a nod towards sustainability and eco awareness. we all know its a complete copout as it will only do 20 miles on electric on a good day. but thats enough to trundle mr exec from Glasgow airport to the city in electric silence and on the longer stuff at least make it look like we're doing out bit. even though common sense says a 520 or 530d is by far and away the better car for the work we do. a lot of it is theatre, meet the customer in the terminal make a show unplugging the charging cable and at least pretend we're doing out part.
Unfortunately the client base that would appreciate a 540i with minimal silencing is few and far between

ok the 30e turned out to be a badly prepped dog, dealer didnt see the problem with having 3 different brands of tyre on the one car along with alignment problems so knocked that on the head pretty sharpish.

deposit down on a 520d

only real positives is that its a touring and has HK.

see the edit above.

few things missing from my shopping list carplay is going to be a 50/50 if i can add it no active cruise boo. but its got a massive boot and will do 60mpg all day long. not as quick as the 530d i really wanted or even the 30e but as one of the reviews of the G30 touring i read said its 95% of the car you'll ever need or want

as stupid as it sounds the car play is a big deal. had it on my 1 series and loved it, found it fantastic especially with waze, digging had suggested that a lot of places can retrofit the aerial if needed so wasnt a deal breaker but what is the NBTEVO? is that i drive 6.0?

spoke to the local bmw specialist not a problem at all to retro fit along with a million and one other options that can be enabled.

think i'll live without a reversing camera though, £550 fitted ouch

picked it up yesterday, lovely sedate run up from Harrogate to Scotland average of 57mpg, had it out this morning for a quick run into Glasgow and its certainly pokey enough.

honestly glad i didnt buy a 530d now, once the warranty has expired i think a remap might possibly be on the cards (should take it up to about 230-235bhp) but to quote one of the reviews on the G30 i watched its 95% of the car you could ever need.

wheels are still god awful though.....

Anyone explain the benefit of bmw connected drive @[tw]fox

it’s seems like a nonesense subscription tbh

many actual benefits to having it?

Am I right in saying I can preheat or cool the car with connected drive?

quick update, full screen carplay all setup with a wifi module installed in little over an hour this morning, no drama no fuss. paid £150 fitted for the module and relevant coding.
I also found out i have a split opening tailgate more of a novelty considering the tailgate opens and closes off the key anway but something i didnt know was there.

good day all round

I looked at a few 530e s and they all seems to have the WiFi module pre fitted which would explain the cost difference. Mine included a new wifi module being supplied and fitted

speed limit information seems expensive as I understand it it’s just coding as all U.K. cars have the version 4 camera

Couple of weeks and about 3000 miles into 6 series ownership now.
Honestly can’t find anything to complain about it really does everything I want it to.

shiny and posh enough for the nice taxi customers
Munches miles like nothing else
900 mile round trip to Heathrow Yesterday having to grudgingly fill her up after 750 miles
Average 57mpg down and back
More than quick enough. A quick play the other night revealed it picks up its skirt and shifts down the road a lot quicker than you would expect a 520d to do well into silly bugger speeds
It’s exceptionally quiet on the move. Both nvh and engine noise is not offensive just a muted grumble

initial feedback is all positive and the only grumble is why did I not push the boat out and buy one a few years ago

I don't think I'll ever understand why somebody would book a taxi to take them from Glasgow to Heathrow :D

If only there was a really fast and convenient option from Glasgow that took you directly into the terminal at Heathrow.

this week has seen

Helensburgh to Heathrow,
Milton Keynes to Glasgow
GLA - Gleneagles - GLA
and a couple of trips to oban

up the A82/A85 i would say the 5 is actually just as quick point to point as the XF she replaced despite being down a good 120bhp on what the XF had and certainly feels much more planted and corners fare better the the jag.

just waiting on the inevitable kerbing of the wheels to justify refurbing in a nice subtle silver. other mods planned include a wireless charging plate for the centre console( once i find a reasonably priced genuine bmw one) car play has already been done as has a boot liner. other than potentially a remap at some point i cant see anything else to do
