G3258 OC not working in Windows 10 Preview!

My backup machine has been running Windows 7 64-bit smoothly for the last 6 months, on a Pentium G3258 clocked @ 4.2GHz at 1.2v. The motherboard is an Asus H81-Plus.

Since installing the Windows 10 Preview a few weeks back, I've noticed that the overclock is no longer registered within the OS. In the BIOS all settings are the same, including the 4.2GHz overclock settings, but within Windows 10 I'm seeing a maximum of 3.2GHz (stock clocks) when looking at CPU-Z, HWMonitor, etc.

Any ideas?!? :confused:
 
yh it should work if its set in the bios

use a stress test like prime95 and look in cpu-z,you should see it go to full oc

EDIT: doesn't it go to full clocks in cpu-z? tried setting full performance in windows power saving? I thought you just meant in system info/windows

also try raising both turbo limits in the bios to match your cpu multiplier

Well, whad'ya know! Just plugged it in, gone to Windows 10, started OpenHardwareMonitor... 4.2GHz showing!

What have I changed? Nothing!

Okay... rebooted twice since, max clocks have been back to 3.2GHz?!?

Have tested with CPU-Z, Geekbench 3, etc.

Really odd. I mean, I'm changing nothing!
 
idk,are you on latest bios? can only be windows detection or bios related,bios passes on the settings to the os
 
No, not latest BIOS as was worried (a while back) that it might remove the H81 overclocking functionality. That said... might give it a go :)
 
No good! Latest BIOS now flashed, but still same scenario. Power up from off, 4.2GHz. Restart from Windows 10, 3.2GHz.

Tried toggling BIOS fast boot options and all sorts, but to no avail. Ah well... no restarts it is!

Not sure what variant of board yours is (mine's the ITX one) but I'm getting exactly the same thing, it's really quite messed up. Spent ages trying various different BIOS'es etc but it shocks me that there's been 19 BIOS revisions and this problem persists. Not sure if it's a chipset related thing as technically overclocking on the H81 chipset is more of a bodge than being official. Either way, it's extremely annoying.

I was seeing it in Windows 8.1 so it's not a Windows 10 thing either. Definitely had CPU-Z only reporting 3.2GHz even with CPU under full load so despite BIOS settings being correct it would not be overclocked until I power the thing off then back on again.

Yup, exactly the same board and issue! I think it must be the board. Back to Windows 7 now... and all is well.
