Hi,
Just though I would make a thread for some speculation on these cards. I have read a rumour that both have taped out.
I have also read that the R600 uses a 64 unified shader architecture, so there can be any ratio of vertex / pixel / geometry shaders.
The G80 apparently has a 48 dis-unified setup with a fixed number of vertex / pixel / geometry shaders.
The R600 would have more overheads selecting shaders, due to the nature on a unified architecture, but may be advantageous running DX10 games. The G80 won't have the same overheads, so perhaps would be better suited to DX9 games, but loose out in DX10?
I'm a n00b rith regards to gfx architecture so take what I have said with a helping of salt. Please correct me if i'm wrong or offer your input.
Too early to speculate?
Cheers!
