Looking at these numbers I really feel that this just strengthens my point about the 8800GT 512MB being a crazy model. With a bit of overclocking on its stock cooler you can bring it up to the performance of the new stock clocked G92 based 8800GTS.

The 8800GTS is going to launch at $100 USD more than the 8800GT (or about $150 AUD). This is a lot of money. Ultimately the 8800GTS G92 card is going to be a faster offering; and sure the price increase isn’t insane like the Ultra was to the GTX, but the model doesn’t seem to fit that great into the full lineup.

If on the other hand the good G92 cores only go to the 8800GTS and the 8800GT becomes a poor overclocker then it could be a different story. Also, if the 512MB model becomes discontinued and a lower speed 256MB model hits the market we again could see how it would become a good model. The bottom line though is that the 8800GT 512MB is such a good model you can completely understand why there are so many on back order.

LMAO, so those that are selling their gt's are basically going to see no performance difference between a stock GTS and an overclocked GT, and slightly better performance on an overclocked GTS, going by the TT review, the new GTS clocks about the same as a good clocking GT.:o

So a stock 8800GTS 512mb is very similar to an overclocked 8800GT 512mb

Upto 10% (7% 3D Mark) in some games difference when the GTS is overclocked though, might be improved with drivers, might not!

Although with AF and AA on there is a 35% difference between OC GTS vs OC GT in HL2, would like to have seen more tests with AA/AF

At higher res's in some games it really seems to count though.

I think it is still a worthwhile model, and it is just limited by the 256bit bus now. Wonder what a GTX or ultra would be like with full 384bit bus and a G92 on board?

Slight spanner in the works.

Those selling their GT's won't be running their GTS at stock ;)

It ain't worth £50 over a GT, if that is the difference, and the high rez difference is negligible at best, this has got to be the dumbest release from Nvidia in a while, yeah all great cards but its just to similar to the GT, it needed more vram, or maybe a bigger memory interface.

There has to be a reason for the lack of stock though, and personally I think it has to do with the fact that once the 8800GTS 512MB becomes available the 512MB 8800GT is going to suddenly become completely unavailable. The card took so much attention away from the new 3870 and 3850 that people simply don’t know these ATI counterparts exist. If NVIDIA can ride this wave going into the Christmas break then they’re laughing all the way to the bank.

If someone is happy to overclock, it’s hard to recommend the GTS to them. However, it could end up being the only card in stock over this holiday period. Time will tell.

Oh, hope they dont kick the GT to the kerb.:o

Their results for Crysis actually contradict their results for the orignal review of the card at stock in which they claimed the GT was faster than it when they were both not overclocked, in this instance it seems an overclocked GT is on par stock GTS.

I think we need to see a few more reviews first.

£50 difference seems OK to me TBH.

Better cooler?
Greater Reliability?
Better Clocking Chips?
Higher Resale Value?
Easier to sell?
Oh and faster.

I agree.

Its 50 quid more.

People have been spending 20 quid plus on an after market cooler for the GT.

The GTS doesn't need one and has more SP's.

Looking at it from that perspective the GTS at 200 is a good buy.

Its balance.

Wouldn't surprise me if they killed off the GT once the GTS comes along, it was only brought out to scupper ATi's 3000 series afterall, they'll probably just do the 256mb GT's to go against the 3850's seen as they will now have a new GTS to crap on the 3870's, althought theres a 512mb 3850 as well, so they may just continue with the 512mb's as well.

Either way, no sense side grading IMO, ill wait for a card that shows some real performance over my GT. If you ain't got a GT though, i would go with the GTS, if its pricing is sweet.

Yeah,

I'm not expecting fantastic things at all.

I was going to get an S1 or even water cool my GT but I might as well just get a GTS with a better cooler and extra SP's for around 30 quid after I sell my GT.

Actually thinking about it, they will probably keep the 512mb GT's going seen as the GT is in the 3870 price range, get shot if it and everyone will just start buying the 3870's as Nvidia won't have a card in that range.

Either way we seem to paying little for GFX these days that offers perfromance of the 300+ cards.

I'm weak.I ordered a GTS but I'm not crazy. The upgrade will cost me a night out at the cinema and a Pizza Hut Pizza.:p
