dont want to wc as we have 2 kids that like to pull/push things they aint supposed to, and the pc is in the front room, so aircooling is only option. is 4-4.2GHz achievable?

i dropped it down to 1.2 and it was stable, just wasnt happy with temps so dropped to 3.7GHz and its ok, so will wait til the new case comes next week
is there much difference between 3.7-4GHz?

Is your cooler good enough mate? i bought a AC 7 pro for 20 quid and it took me 3 times to mount it right as temps were all over the place. Make sure you have a decent air cooler as the chips get hot.

cooler is fine, and is mounted ok, just the case is tiny and has really bad airflow, and the cable management in it is, well poor at best.

now i have it stable at 3.7GHz, with the ram underclocked, whats the best way to get the ram to work at its proper speed, i tried enabling the XMP profile and it didnt like it, so do i need to put it all in manually?

a lot volts for 3.8. my core i7 920 which is not a DO does 1.25 for 3.8

and whithout your help my clock would still be 2.66GHz so im very greatfull.
just need the new case to turn up so i can see if 4GHz is achievable

Increase the memory multiplier, that inturn will increase the memory frequency.
You will also need to increase the Uncore freq to 2xmem freq +1
eg mem @1600hz
uncore 3400hz

ah right, so if i was to get it to 1866MHz that would be uncore 3800hz?

no voltages should need changing as long as your ram is at the manafacturers specified voltage

should be 1.65v but i can only set it 1.64v, 0.01v shouldnt make too much difference should it?

the multiplier wont let me have 1866mhz i have 6x, 8x, 10x. the 8x works but 10x doesnt. any ideas?

think i have worked it out.
if i chang my cpu multi to 20x, fsb to 187, then if i set the ram multi to 10x it should then work out at ram running at 1870mhz?

nope that didnt solve it highest i can get at the moment is ram running @ 1560mhz

got my new case last night, swapped it all over and temps have dropped by 3-8deg managed to get it to 3.8GHz stable, max temp 74deg so will go for the 4GHz next week when im on holiday so got more time to play.

got it to 4GHz with max temps of 75/76 so getting there, just not happy about my ram speed
is there any way of having the fans running faster sooner or perminantly?
