System specs below.

Having just got this setup last week and finally at a stage its running fine,
I can't for the life of me figure out why the onboard audio is so low in volume
compared to my old 680i with an X-fi fitted.

I have the latest R.227 audio driver but even with 100% volume it is not half as loud as before.

All the speakers work fine in setup (Logitech Z-5500). Just low volume.

Im using HD Audio but dont use an Optical out just the orange/black and green cable. I say HD Audio as that is what the Driver unpacks to Folder named HD_Audio

Also on Vista SP1 X64

get latest realtek audio drivers from gigabyte, and dont bother with gigabytes hd audio software its not so good sound imo still use the hd plug on ur motherboard tho, just uninstall gigabyte hd software and let microsoft instal theres automaically when u turn on pc,also if u do install gigabyte audio drivers if u have room correction enabled set all the sound up to 10 on each speaker and the feet/meters to 0,that way it will be louder but you are right my old pentium 4 was louder

Easy thing to do and you might have done it before.

Have you just check the default or all programs?

Even if the default volume is at 100% there might be another program with the levels down which will affect it.
