GA-X58A-UD5 Intel RAID console doesn't work

I've just assembled a system with a GA-X58A-UD5 in it. I have two 2TB Seagate drives attached to the Intel ICH10R controller. I have turned the controller onto RAID mode in the BIOS. I boot, the board POSTs and I eventually I get the message

Press CTRL-I to enter Configuration Utility

I press CTRL-I. Nothing happens. The machine goes further through the boot process and tells me I have a DISK BOOT FAILURE. This is to be expected, as I have yet to install an OS.

I've tried three different keyboards in all available USB sockets. The BIOS has no problem with the keyboards. I've tried Alt-I, I and everything else I could think of.

Has anyone done this successfully? Is there something I'm missing? All I want is to turn the two drives into a RAID1 array.

(GA-X58A-UD5, i7 930, Intel X25-M 160GB, 2 x Seagate 2TB wossnames, 3x2GB Kingston Hyper-X, nVidia GTX260 or something that I know works, no overclocking or faffing about yet.)

Grrr. Time for bed.

The answer appears, somewhat oddly, to be to keep doing it again and again until it works.

I tried lots of combinations of BIOS settings, none of which worked, returned everything to normal and then just mashed CTRL-I repeatedly in despair. On about the fifth attempt in a row, it suddenly decided that I was worthy of entering the RAID setup screen.
