It's not listed on Gigabyte's website. It's not found in the search and it's not listed on their Socket 478 motherboard list. The closest board by description is the GA-8ST! Here's the motherboard page and here's the CPU support list page (but no CPUs are listed for that board!)

It looks like it's an OEM board shipped with pre-built PCs. Here's a link to the manual for the board (pdf, 3.9MB) This is for the GA-8ISXT-FS - I don't know if the FS is significant

This board is based on the Intel i865PE Springdale-PE chipset. This chipset supports 800MHz fsb processors. Here's the Intel website page for this chipset. Here is a list of motherboards using the chipset and their supported processors, also on Intel's website. Your specific board isn't listed but as the chipset supports the 800MHz bus and the Prescott core then you should be able to use processors as fast as the Pentium 4 3.4GHz

Brilliant thanks very much for the info would i see a big increase in performance upgrading to say a 2.6 to a 3.4 or am i better getting a new board, the board will have to have agp though
Thanks again for your help

It depends

If your 2.6GHz P4 is running on the 400Mhz bus then you'll notice a huge performance boost. If it's running on the 533MHz bus then you'll notice a large performance boost

If it's on the 800MHz bus with HT Technology then you'll still notice a performance boost, although not quite as large as for the other P4 chips

If you want to find out what chip you have download CPU-Z - this will give you all of the information you need on your CPU, memory, motherboard, etc

Ran cpu-z and it`s on the 800,a great litltle programme thanks again for your advice
