resolved, thanks Guys :)

Hi

Ive been running a OCuk 8800GTX for 3 years with a Corsair 620 PSU
Abit IP35Pro board/Q6600/ (new 8GB ram)

I just bought a Gainward 480 GTX and I cant get a display output
The 480's powered up
I can hear its booting ok, going to window after login

Ive tried:
both 6 pin PCIe, Removed one
vga cable
DVI
swapping the cable/connections over
reinstalled the card
ive even pulled out the Revodrive I was trying to install at the same time

It works with my old 8800GTX

##RMA enquiry sent##

any ideas

thanks
SK

Hi thank for your reply

How do I reset the BIOS, when I can't see.....CMOS jumper?

it does have 8 & 6pins, but my supply is only 2x6pin Corsair didn't suppy other cables

The install manual say you must use one 6pin and say there is a cable supplied, but there isn't. also says 400W min so it should be OK

You need the 8 piun hooked up as well. Sounds like it's struggling to get enough juice to run. RMA maybe isn't right in this instance. I'd get a 8 pin converter and try it, THEN if it doesn't work...RMA

If you have a CMOS jumper on the motherboard do that, if not just take the motherboard battery out for 15 minutes and then put it back.

It's no wonder your card isn't working then, it'll need the 8 pin and 6 pin to work, did the graphics card come with an extra cable that allows you to convert to an 8 pin? with it being a Gainward I'd imagine there should be! Your power supply will be fine, you'll just need to find the 6 pin to 8 pin adaptor.

Should be similar to this!

Ive reset to CMOS, but its still the same,

it must be the 8pin then, it say's that they supplied a cable but i wasn't in the box

I thought as there was no cable, you could just connect the six or an 8 if you had it?

Looking at the cable, I don't know why the 480 can't auto switch inside

thanks for the quick help

Nope you'll have to use the 8 pin to provide the card with enough power to work properly, you don't have any other newish graphics cards around that may have the same cable in the box? If not you'll have to nip to a local computer shop or order that cable I linked to from OcUK, it would be a lot quicker to go to a shop however :)

A cable was missing on my 520hx from Corsair, they got a spare in the post to me the next day. Brilliant service.
