Nope 7800 GS are a GS!

Gainward have taken 7800 GT PCI-E chips and bridged them down to AGP for this card. So it is actually a 7800 GT but to keep everybody at NVIDIA happy it has to be advertised as a 7800 GS, but its really a 7800 GT out of the box with 20 fully active working pipelines.

Reasoning for this is because Gainward were going to do another batch of the "Goes Like Hell" 7800 GT on PCI-E cards but as demand has died off due to 7900 coming out Gainward looked at OcUK's suggestions and agreed that AGP demand is still massive for a very powerful solution on AGP and hence this card has appeared. :)

Again its limited, we only have 900 units available and I suspect that a card is the quality and performance will sell well, because remember it has a silent cooling solution too. :)

you will probably get a slight decrease in performance as its bridged from pcie. but wow, nice one Gainward!
 
Hmm If I was gonna spend £290 on a graphics upgrade, I could get a new PCI-e board + 7900GT for the same price. Maybe they should have made 256mb ones and priced them at £200, then i'd be more tempted.

A wicked card for those still on 9800s/6600s tho.

indeed, 256mb cards would have been better.

gotta give gainward a pat on the back for making the effort to give agp users a more powerful card
 
Very interested in this. Is it a significant upgrade from an X800XT @ 500/500?
Also, I use an sff and have the case modified to fit an arctic cooler. Is there specs anywhere which show if the cooler is the same size as the ATI 4 rev2 cooler as I would need to know the card fitted before I bought one?

Yeah im actually more than impressed that Gainward has managed to do this, well done! Price is pretty high but i guess agp is the premium anyways!

Checked performance and its very promising, gotta love the pic exposing the GT core ;)

Ive been looking at this too, works out about £165inc, but Im not sure if it would be any quicker than my current setup.
 
£280 for a 7800gs when you get a x1800xt for £199? Am I missing something?

I assume they must have something special or you wouldnt have ordered stock, no?
 
Yes, you are missing something...

Like most purchasers of the card will also be missing something - namely a PCIE slot! ;)

It's more expensive because it's lower volume is my guess.

Oh, and it's 'special' because it's essentially a GT card, what with the 20 pipes and the early indications of performance from the review...
