Mainly because Tefal and I are spamming the boards with random chit chat about this game, I think a thread of it's own is deserved...that's if we're not the only two people that play it!

i have the game bought it recently after coming across some thread linking some blog about blowing up suns with a deathsucker or something...

so i gave it a shot.. not had much time to get into it but i cheated got deathstar things and killed everything. so ill play it proper soon.

I preferred the spamming - it added some life to some otherwise dull threads.

Blasphemy...GD is full of enlightened individuals that post heartwrenching, mind wracking, exotic threads that deserve our time and effort to read! My drivvel was not welcome!

I'm pretty crap at it but I do love making my own ships. :p

Well my first playthrough my whole empire fell beneath the might of pirates...well they destroyed every starbase and ship I owned so I rage quitted and vowed never to take the diplomatic route again...
The velvet glove approach does not work.

I rage quitted after forgetting about my main planet... :(

It got invaded and well spanked - hard.

It's quite time consuming and half the time I always end up fighting my own brain to think where I want to go, too much choice. But I'll settle down to one plan one day!

I've had this game for ages on Impulse, never given it a proper shot yet. I've played some small size maps and found it okay. I'm guessing it shines more in the big big maps.

I always want to make cool looking ships but can never make them look as good as they do in my head :D

Is GalCiv2 the next step up from Master of Orion 2? MOO2 is one of my favourite games, and I would like to see if there are any more XXXX games that picked up the baton that MOO3 dropped.

Not sure if gamespy reviews can be trusted or not (I'm a **** when it comes to all that) but;

'The true heir to the legendary Master of Orion has arrived.'

Sword of the Stars is really the Spiritual Successor to MOO. GalCiv is more like a Civ game set in space (obviously :D)

Had the Ultimate Edition for a month or so now. I did have a 'dodgy' copy when it first came out but seeing the UE for like £6 was a no-brainer :)

Not really played anything other than a small map, I do intend to get a large map game setup sometime soon but it's a case of finding what AI settings suite me first so I don't spend hours building up then get completely smashed as soon as any kind of progress is being made :p

Influence and diplomacy is a nice easy route to win, buying up fleets and tech to defend your planets!!

I did that, then attacked 1 other CPU player, who I forgot had alliances with everyone else, so in the end I was fighting vs everyone else but using my money and tech to just buy their ships lol
