** GALAX BLACK EDITION 970 EX OC!! **

When you return your card, can you put FAO Gibbo on a bit of paper in the box so I can test it and listen to it please. I'm yet to actually experience cool whine on a 970 that is loud, I heard it extremely faintly on my gigabyte 980 G1 but only when I push the core to 1630MHz. So I'm curious to have a listen. :)

Put the card in a system underneath a desk in a room no bigger than your average living room, then run windows experience system rating.

If the pc is in a corner/ against a wall/ under a desk the noise amplifies

Just to add, being bronze or gold rating isn't that relevant if the PSU is of good quality, efficiency in these cases depend on the technology used as much as quality.

Bronze PSUs like the Corsair Builder Series or the EVGA Plus Bronze Series are using what was the best PSU design 5-6 years ago, they are still good. The newer PSUs use DC-to-DC converter tech to get better efficiency.

Coil whine or cap squeal, I'd group them together for this topic can happen with any PSU/GPU combo, though PSUs with cheaper components are more likely to suffer.
Using a PSU with cheap components that produce bad voltage regulation and high ripple will definitely increase the likelihood of coil whine or cap squeal happening.

It can also just be bad luck a certain combo of parts having a resonant frequency. These same parts in different PCs could be silent, that is why it can be very hard for companies to handle RMAs for this particular problem.
The most extreme examples tend to happen whatever PSU you use and are easier for RMA, it's the middle ground that can be a pain. :)

I can confirm using a EVGA 500W 80 plus and GALAX GTX 970 EX OC didn't produce any whine, I specify was listening for this. This isn't a guarantee that is combo of PSU & GPU won't be affected.

I've got to get the RMA approved first! Third time lucky I hope.

Then I'll more then likely run it down on Saturday and see if I can get it tested there and then like I have in the past.

You need to sort your staff out if you're the 'boss'

3 times now it's been rejected!!

Dear A****** D****,

thank you for your webnote.

Gibbo is a purchaser and does not have anything to do with the RMA's and the RMA department. I will not be arranging an RMA on a graphics card for coil whine. I do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you but it is not a fault.

Regards,Luke Pointon

Finally a galaxy card that isn't blue.

Looks so much better. If I hadn't bought the MSI already this is the card I would have picked.

Are they quiet?

Yes, very.

I wish all the off topic fluff about coil whine in this thread would be deleted so we can actually talk about the card.

PS - when someone gets one of the black editions can someone dump the bios (using this tool) - I'm curious to see if the non-black editions can be flashed with it.

What sort of fan speeds do you get under load?

TBH if you have 970s, you should also have a gaming headset with the sound cranked up, so you shouldn't hear it. Not excusing the whine of course

I am also worried about purchasing some 970s due to the whine but given I am also buying Roccat Kave XTDs, I probably won't hear it. I also think that I may have had it with my other cards in the past 5-6 super-rigs, but I always have my system and gcard fans blasting anyway

I will be ordering 2-3 of these bad boys... I don't like the blue PCB on the normal ECOX

Hi BMW

I want my M3 engine replaced as it rattles and uses oil, my mates M3 with identical car is silent and uses no oil, so mine is faulty,

Their response would be politely to do one, your car is fine and running within specification. :D

down.

You obliviously dont own a BMW then as this would not be their response.

They would happily book the car in for you and have a look costing you per hour, they would then probably suggest either a full service or parts needed replacing, then after that your car still wouldn't sound any better :D
