Hi all my mrs' galaxy ace has been bricked
I've managed to get to the andriod recovery screen and Ive got 4 options but if possible I'd like to save her contacts so I'm a bit reluctant to choose wipe data/factory reset at this time.

These are the options

Reboot system now
apply update from sd card
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition

I've removed the micro sd card but cant seem to find any contacts on there so they must be stored on the phone ( they are not on the SIM )

I dont think reboot system now will do anything as we have removed the battery and re inserted it and we just get as far as the start screen and nothing else

so the only option i can see is wipe cache partition but Im not exactly sure what this will do

I'd appreciate it if someone could advise thanks.

I did set up a google account for her the other day but not sure if anything got backed up, ill take a look cheers.

Of you can get to recovery, it's not bricked :)

What I would do is install ClockworkMod recovery (probably via Odin) and use it to take a backup, then wipe the phone. You can use Titanium Backup to restore stiff from the backup you took.

Ive found the contacts on another phone so thats one problem solved
Ok ive done wipe/reset but it's only wiped it
so it seems that I now need to back up from SD card, what is the easiest method of doing that ?

Thanks.

Factory reset didn't work on the Father-in-laws, I had to flash the stock ROM via Odin v4.42 using S5830XWKPY_S5830XWKPA_S5830XEUKP1_HOME ROM.

That worked great and left all his dataon there since it was all on the SD card, no idea how his contacts remained though
