Galaxy Note 4 - W10. Nothing in folder

I had something similar happen on my Nexus 5 and it turned out that it was because I had recently put a pincode password on my phone. If you have a pin/password on your note 4 then try putting in the pin whilst it's plugged in and then hopefully your folders should pop up.

The phone isn't even recognised if you connect it with the phone locked on my note 4, it's not like you can see the phone but the folders are empty, which is what the op is experiencing by the sounds of it.
The above poster may be spot on but my first guess was to change the USB connection method using the drop down. I think the options are something like 'MTL' or 'camera'?
