Managed to get kies installed.... connected and then get message my firmware cannot be updated!
Strange!?

You probably have the latest firmware that has officially been released.

XXJF3 is quite old, there is a XXJM1 on the server. Try test mode in Kies ctrl + alt + u + p (will need registry hack if its the latest version) and/or editing the Kies strings as below.

* Start by deleting the Keys under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Samsung\Kies\DeviceDB\
* Start Kies.
* Reconnect the phone, using the stock TouchWiz launcher. The register keys will be recreated from your phones data as it connects.
* Pick the top key under DeviceDB and look at the contents of the strings HIDSWVER and ProductCode.

Should be like this:

"HIDSWVER"="I9000XXJF3/I9000OXAJF3/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3"
"ProductCode"="GT-I9000HKDXEU"

Fixed it! I've installed the Quadrant benchmarking app (original score around 800) and then applied the "One Click Lag Fix" update from the Android Market. The slow downs are gone and it's now very responsive. The benchmark score has risen to 2307! Amazing.

Have just installed the one click lag fix..... ste seems very quick now. Impressed!
