Galaxy s2 upgrade

Came to the end of my contract last month downgraded to a rolling sim only for 8 quid a month and im now thinking about upgrading the aging s2. Really got my heart set on a nexus device however I was hoping something would have been said in the i/o about a 32gb model or a nexus 5 announcement neither happened and all that took place was a us only virgin s4 at 650 dollars.

So with that in mind is the nexus 4 enough of an upgrade to the s2 to consider it or should i hold out 6 months and a) hope for a decent spec n5 and b) hope its priced similar to the bargain of the n4?

Any thoughts?
 
The main problem with waiting is that you will end up waiting forever!

There is always something better just round the corner so my advice is to get yourself into some shops and see what handsets you like and go from there!

On the other hand, the S2 is still no slouch, so it depends on what sort of "wow" factor you are after - most handsets will have a quicker processor, more RAM and/or Jelly Bean updates by now but don't make a huge difference in my experience!

I guess the biggest jump performance-wise would be to go to a 4G/LTE model to take advantage of the super-fast internet (assuming you are in an area that has a decent signal!)
 
im not in a 4g area so it doesnt make much difference and there no way im willing to pay for it even if / when it does get here, ive got a nexus 7 which i love and much prefer the original android feel to the other stuff or even the hit and miss performance im getting off my current s2 running cm10. I suppose really im wondering if its worth waiting to see what or if the nexus 5 brings anything new to the table or just take the plunge now
 
Well I went from my beloved S2 to the Xperia T after I went swimming with the S2 in my pocket! :confused:

It's a little nicer/smoother/quicker etc but certainly not a huge leap in performance!

My wife is looking to change from her HTC Sensation and I've been doing a bit of research for her and so far the S3 looks to be a good bet for what she wants to be paying monthly!
Other than the S3 I've been looking at the S4 (little bit too big) or possibly the HTC One which looks very nice! Problem is, like you, we aren't in a 4G area so there seems little point pushing the boat out for anything over the standard S3!

In respect of the look of it, I tend to find that between the various free/cheap launchers out there, you can pretty much pick and choose what you want!
 
I took receipt of a Nexus 4 yesterday, having spent the last 2 years on contract with my S2.. It took me a long while to finally make the decision, having watched the launch of the One and the S4, and yearned to have a lot more disposable income..

In terms of the upgrade in experience, it's much smoother, battery performance is at least on par, if not better, and there's a lot more real estate on the screen.

I couldn't warrant the cost of the handset when it came to the big flagships, but having spent the money and having the phone in my hand, I don't really feel i'm missing out on a lot. It is still a current generation phone, and a very good one at that and I don't see Google updating it for a while.

(I do wish it had a memory card slot, though)

If money was no object, i'd probably have gone with the S4, but i'm not disappointed with the choice. Also, having saved a bit of money on it, I can justify upgrading again in a year or so.
 
If the nexus 5 is not priced like the n4 you will be a bit gutted I think.

I'd say get an N4 now - has awesome custom roms ready to roll too.

Wow! You are spot on!

Having seen both in a shop I was sure that the S4 was the bigger handset!!! Perhaps down to the slightly larger screen!!
 
So you went for the N4 then?

What contact did you go for out of interest or have you bought it outright and kept on your rolling sim deal?
 
rolling sim deal through t-mobile 5000 text 250mb and 500mins for 8 quid a month so ive just bought the 16gb outright for 280 quid
 
I have wireless everywhere, home, work pretty much every house i go to and i hardly ever go away, in 18 months ive never used more than a couple hundred meg
 
Its here already well impressed with google rooted already but this thing feels so sturdy and solid compared to the galaxy very happy so far

Mind if I ask a couple of questions as a new owner??

1) How much storage space are you left with out of the 16gb after apps & the android O/S??

2) How does the display grab you? (I've read reports of it looking pretty dull, especially when looked at next to something like the S4!)

3) Mind if I ask why you have rooted straight away? (I'm never sure of what benefits you get from rooting other than when I rooted my original HTC Desire because the storage space for app's was shockingly low!)

1) Total storage is 12.92gb so after the 20 % lost to formatting and the os installation you get a pretty good amount left.

2) The display is good compared to my aging s2 very similar to the nexus 7 which i like I find the later samsung phones to be a bit bright and cartoony personally but some people like that.

3) A, its very simple to do on these so as it requires a factory reset i figured id get it out the way now as B, i use apps like adblocker and titanium backup on all my devices which require rooting
