I know this phone won't be of interest to many on here but I just wondered if anybody has one.

To be honest I still want a phone with physical buttons, but looks like I'll have to take the leap at some point. My Galaxy Pro battery life is getting unbearable and the phones a bit tatty too.

Now obviously I know its not upto the spec of the full S3 but I'm surely going to be taking a huge leap coming from a tiny blackberry style screen & Froyo to a normal sized screen & Jelly Bean.

So basically, I've been offered a 5 week old mint condition simfree S3 Mini for £150. Is it a decent enough phone for this price? Or are there other phones I should consider either new or nearly new. To be honest I don't really want a massive sized phone anyway, so this should be about the right size!

As said in the other thread, you would get a better phone for not much more (from ebay).

Either the RAZR i or preferably the HTC one S. The GS 2 is also better than the GS 3 mini but still costs quite a bit more and isn't as good as the one S (aside from mainly storage) or RAZR I (aside from camera)

I wouldn't pay any more than £120 for the GS 3 mini.

Well the S3 mini's are going for £200-250 on ebay so getting one for £120 isn't going to happen. I thought £150 was quite a good price for an almost new phone.

What benefits would the others phones bring me? I quite like the idea of a smaller phone than the s2/s3 sort of size.

Don't HTC & Motorola have dubious build quality & support also?

It might be a newish phone but that doesn't mean it is good :p

Well for the one S:

- much better camera
- better audio quality
- better screen
- much better build/perceived quality
- USB OTG and MHL
- better battery life (if you get the S4 chipset version)
- better performance (especially if you get the S4 chipset version)

Razr i:

- better screen
- much better build/perceived quality
- much better battery life (better than the one S too)
- I think this also supports USB OTG and MHL.....

The one S feels smaller than other other 4.3" screened devices i.e. GS 2, not sure about the razr i.

Also the GS 3 mini doesn't have dual mic, auto brightness nor USB host or MHL capabilities. Main advantages of it over the S would be a removable battery and SD slot.

Build quality with those 2 handsets? They are the best android phones for build quality :p Razr i with a kevlar back, aluminium casing and the one S has an aluminium uni-body with a micro arc oxidised finish.

Support wise, Motorola are poor for the UK, supposedly the JB update will be coming "soon" and hopefully with them being partners with google now they will provide support for the device for longer, unfortunately no way to tell just how their support for the i will end up.

HTC are good for support (Samsung are better when it comes to their flagship devices though), however, are a bit slow but then again they have updated about 4 phones to JB (the one S got JB about 3 weeks ago), which is better than all the other companies so far, afaik Samsung have only provided the update to the GS 3 for now (excluding devices that shipped with JB) and the galaxy S 2 was said to have got the update in January or near the end of December iirc and it has now been put back to February. Samsung only provide excellent support for their flagship devices and I can't see the GS 3 mini getting updates as fast or many more in a years time.

If you like the GS 3 mini and aren't bothered about the advantages of the other phones then go for it :)
