I know this is a bad idea, but my iPhone 3GS feels and looks old and I'm fed up with IOS operating system , compared to the wife's Desire and new htc one S.

After a quick calculation I can afford £33 contract for the SGS3 but is it worth the extra £4 over a one X?

I've done a quick scan of this forum page and both seem to have problems, not in a hurry to get either (just yet), as the price will probably come down when (or if) the iPhone 5 is announced.

I would have gone for a S but I don't think I could live with "just" 16GB

There both amazing phones but for me the S3 is worth the extra amount.

Pro (S3)
Generally a much faster and enjoyable experience
Touchwiz feels a lot less bloated then Sense4 (personal) and I love a lot of the touches they have borrowed from the CM team
Much better battery life, the international One X battery really sucks but this might have been fixed with the latest software update, will need an owner to verify
Video camera is the best on any phone (expect the pureview)
Better Sound
Better storage options and removable SD and battery
Will have a better XDA community which is always very improtant for me

Cons
One X has better build - Both use similar plastic which is a very high quailty but the One X feels much more solid in the hand
One X looks better apart from the ugly as **** camera, really ruins it for me but apart from that its very nice looking phone
Has the standard google buttons but doesnt make them on screen, really love multi-tasking button. However this had some issues with a '...' for menu options appearing at the bottom of ever app IIRC

The one S is an amazing phone, if you get the S4 version which is quickly becoming a think of the past in favour of the crappy s3. Apart from that is has amazing build quailty, very very fast (way ahead of the One X and on par with the S3). Best battery life apart from the Razr Maxx. A nice screen (Which it was 720p would make it a almost perfect phone).

I own both of these phones and the Galaxy S 3 is better by a considerable margin. You can't go wrong.

Fallen god has hit the nail on the head in his post above.

I've had both of these and I've settled for the One X. Better camera (not much in it but I got consistently better results with the One X). I like the design of the One X better. Latest firmware update fixes screen flicker issues and radio issues, easily get a day of battery life out of it - but its not as good as the GS3. Screen is better on the One X without a shadow of a doubt, the pentile screen on the GS3 is very good but it just isnt as crisp as the SLCD2 on the OneX.

Edit: latest firmware also addresses the stupid '... menu' issue as suggested above, HTC basically 'borrowed' a tweak from the XDA community and implemented it.

Main reason I kept the One X is because it has the Tegra 3 chipset and I had a Transformer Prime (also Tegra 3) so any Tegra-optimised games I bought would work on both. I've since got rid of the Prime and have the Nexus 7 (also Tegra 3) so still makes sense. That's definitely a consideration if you're getting an Android tablet.

Either way you'll have a great phone.
