Hi All

I've got a Galaxy S3 which is running Android 4.1.2.

One of my friends also has an S3 but his is running 4.3.

My phone says it's up-to date and so does kies, so how do I update it?

Download the Official stock rom from samfirmware.com.
Download ODIN

Use google to find the how to use ODIN (there are hundreds of guides out there) and use ODIN to flash the official stock rom.

Looking at that site the O2 firmware was last update at the beginning of last year, Good old O2 always at the cutting edge!

Mine only got the update 2 days ago (S3 LTE I9305 EE/Tmobile) and I've been checking it daily.

While we are on the subject, how does the text preview in the lock screen work (on 4.3 I mean)? Can you somehow click it and go to the text message?

You could use CyanogenMod installer. I assume the s3 is on 4.3 with them if not 4.4. I am running 4.3 on a s2 with CyanogenMod.

Chances are then it's O2 at fault for not keeping up with the updates. You can use Odin to flash a completely stock version of the ROM, that way it will also receive updates directly from Samsung instead of O2.

I'd think twice before doing it. My GF updated hers and since her battery is discharging a lot quicker. Also its just been sent back to Samsung due to an issue with it no longer connecting to a mobile network. If you google either of these issues they seem to be linked to the update :mad:

Have you tried resetting the device? I heard that helps... or was that for another update... there's been too many issues with Samsung devices updating to a newer version of Android (my sister decided not to update to 4.1 on her SII because of this and doesn't want to reset her device).

only the branded O2 phones are still on 4.1.2. I`m on O2 and have 4.3 but its an unbranded,unlocked S3. However like the OP has said not too impressed with 4.3 thus far and tempted to try a custom ROM instead.

Yep, tried a factory and a hard reset but neither helped. From reading online its something to do with the modem file. You can flash it to fix, but the phone was still under warranty so it wasn't worth the risk of it going wrong so just sent it off to Samsung.

I only questioned it really because a friends s3 is running 4.3 & I thought there may have been a problem with my phone. Didn't cross my mind that his is on a different network.
