Hi guys,

Anyone have any experience of refurbishing houses with a gambrel roof style? There is one for more that is up for sale. It needs a total refit but equally finding it hard to get past the awful frontage. It is a gambrel roof style and I have a picture of a Amish barn in my head that is psychologically selling it to me - but can't find any real world examples of lovely relatively modern gambrel roof style houses.

Any ideas? Photos? Is it even the right term in the UK?

Just walk away. ;)

More helpfully, I think they're sometimes called Dutch roofs too.
Hopefully this doesn't come up in any search on Gambrel roofs that my wife does.:cry::cry:

It does look like a horror house tbh. But a double car driveway and 1200sq-ft for this cost, in this catchment area; its a real compelling prospect.

Its just hideous

Need some pics or a link tbh!
Fair - just cautious I end up on the Google

As you can see it is GROSS compared to the lovely period cottages. I have no idea how these two gambrel roof houses came about. But the story would have been - "god who wants to live here?" - they knocked down 4 terraces, stole from the enormous rear gardens to give driveways, and were done. 50 years pass by and now those 2 bed terraces are 550/600k+!

Being fair, I dont think it is that bad. You call them period cottages.. I call them terrace houses IMHO they are no more attractive than that 60/70s built house next door with the Dutch Barn roof. If you changed its windows and put a pitch on the porch / bay roof it would look very different, the roof IMHO is the least of the problems with that house's aesthetics
