Game Controller for PC

Hello all,

Recently i bought some games, but playing them with a keyboard isn't really the best solution i think.

Games such as:

Batman Arkham City
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Assassins Creed (1-4)
Fifa 12

My idea was to buy a decent Gamepad / Controller to play these games with. Although i've read Assassins Creed has problems with recognition of a XBOX 360 Controller and this seems the best choice in my opinion.

Any advice?
I''m willing to spend 50 pounds on a controller.

What controller type are you familiar with (PS3/ 360)?
Could just buy the PC equivilent?

I am familiar with the 360 controller since i've had a 360 2 years ago, but i was wondering if they were compatible with most games?

May I say one thing. PC = Mouse + Keyboard. Thats why most people buy PCs... Controllers are awful. Atleast with a keyboard you can have 26 letters to customise...

Xbawks 360 controller is the best there is for the PC. Don't get me wrong I love keyboard and mouse for FPS games, but games like GTA IV and most driving games are transformed with a controller

xbox pad is the best pad for pc's most games support them without having to change anything
but mouse+keyboard own pads

360 pad has become the standard and works for all of those games mentioned.

Why is it everytime a controller gets mentioned with regards to pc, it is then followed by numerous k/m > controller posts as if it's a fact? Happens every single time even when there was no question anywhere near that asked. It's very much the pc equivalent of fanboys getting precious about their chosen console.

Games like skyrim, GTA, racing games etc that are built around consoles unquestionably feel better on a gamepad (In my opinion, others will vary) i used an xbox for exclusvies and a way to play games until i got my rig and i can say that most ported over games (Well, not so much ports but games designed for controllers) feel better on an Xbox pad than a keyboard + mouse.

Each to their own aswell.

Pretty much this, games like GTA IV 'caused me to go and buy an Xbox 360 controller, the experience is much more enjoyable with it.

Well.... The trouble comes with games that are more designed for games consoles.

A good example is BM:AC, playing that with a keyboard sucks, you have one button to make you run... so all you can do is walk or run and it feels sloppy, but with a game controller the movement speed changes depending on the game stick.

So, imho, it is more to do with the game than the technology type. I'm more from the old Amiga side tho, where you had joystick and/or keyboard/mouse.
