I know we have quite a few parents on here so looking for some recommendations.

Trying to find a game for my nephew who is just turning six but not sure what would be suitable. It's a low spec AMD E1 (I think) all in one pc so won't play anything too taxing but my brother has asked me to buy them something to use on it.

Looking on Amazon brings up loads of educational games but they all seem to be really dated (Win XP as specs, made over 10 years ago etc).

Any suggestions? (No to Alien Isolation, that's too scary for me let alone them :o )

6 is pretty young. His particular experience and skill with using computers is going to change how complicated of a game he will be able to enjoy.

It may be able to run minecraft
My boy started on minecraft at 6 and is now so versed in it i have no idea what he is doing...

apparently this site http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri can tell you if its playable on that laptop...not sure of the site credentials
Otherwise if he/she has a tablet toca games are half decent.

Ha, I never really got Minecraft but seems to be the kids game of choice and I think they may already have got him it.

He's a creative little guy, likes storytelling and making things. I remember one of the first things I used on a PC was a Disney colouring in software package, had loads of fun with that but those sort of things seem to be on tablets now.

I guess what he wants is something that will teach him how to use the PC and encourage him to do more.

Nothing has taught my kid more on a PC than minecraft, he uses the console to cheat/ change hubs/do all sorts of stuff, i swear his WPM is close to mine these days, he's 7!!!!

Other games for that laptop are limited to older titles really. Kids like the "new" thing even at 6.

I played through the first two Trine games with my son when he was 5/6. He loved them, though wouldn't be able to do it on his own. The third Trine game is total arse, mind.

We also played Gauntlet, sonic racing transformed, scribblenauts...... And just cause 2 (messing about with planes and driving cars off mountains mostly)

I've not really given him stuff to play on his own yet, though. Bit young (nearly 7).

minecraft is awesome.
also Ori and the blind forest looks good.
Also I forgot crayon physics and world of goo.
online game lightbot is amazing for programming, but is hard.

Someone recommended Lego Marvel Superheroes to me on a similar thread, and must say it is great for the younguns. Can co-op too. My son is 4 and loves this and I was surprised how quickly he picked it up. Any of the other lego games too

Also Rocket League (not online matches). Trackmania. Portal. Also there is a sega megadrive emulator thing on steam, you can play a lot of the old megadrive games on there.

No idea if the PC you have will run half of these but gives an idea of what my 4 year old plays (he also loves flying around on Star Citizen :p

The laptop would struggle with nearly all of these but even my 5 year old will have a bash at rocket league.
Most kids want to "play" what you play as long as the controls are basic.

I've got a six year old daughter, her reading still isn't up to much but she enjoys these:

Minecraft
Lego games (marvel super heroes is the best one for young kids, open world and TONS of superheroes)
Slime Rancher (on steam, super cute and easy to play with a controller)
Blazerush
Bang Bang Racing
Terraria if he's got better mouse control
Pixel Piracy (is a little bit of blood in it)
Lego worlds

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll have a look through. The pc is very basic but they have an Xbox (kids don't use it yet) so thats always an option.

Perhaps game was the wrong word, I just remember how you used to see childrens software everywhere (Disney used to chuck the stuff out with every film) but it all seems to have stopped now.

I know they were pretty naff but they were fun for kids and it taught them how to use the PC. Guess tablets and apps have put an end to all that.

I have 2 boys aged 4 & 5, they've been playing the xbox 360 since the were 3 & 4. Any lego game is great although they will get stuck on occasion so be prepared for shouts of help when they're playing it!

The Disney infinity Star Wars games are excellent and can be bought from the windows store.

Toy Story 3 is cool game for the kids although I'm not sure if it's available on PC.

I let me boys play the Batman and Spider-Man games also. Yes they are rated as aged 15/16 but it's only superhero violence which I don't have a problem with - every parent is different though I guess.

Lego Marvel Super Heroes should absolutely be the first game - he'll be hooked for a long long time. It's great split screen too.

My oldest started playing it when he was three, and he still hasn't lost interest approaching five. It's a cracking game - love playing it with him.

Yeah I've been playing it for a while with her, tends to start with us doing missions then ending up messing about with hulks.. for about an hour lol
