Game for an elderly gamer (needs to be simple and easy)

Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of game in the base game - and it might be that you don't care on saving the £s. In which case you might be better of just buying the base so he can get used to the game, and then add the DLCs gradually as they do add more things/mechanics, easing him into it all.

We'll see, less mechanics is probably better. I know he played one of those big mmo city builder/army grindy type games a while ago. Obviously not on the same level, but there's a fair chance he'll pick things up fairly well.

Left-field suggestion, but the latest Star Wars Jedi games are button mashers on the easy game mode. Should run nicely on that PC too.

Thing is, it's going to be less that he can get away with button mashing, and more that having too many things going on will overload him and he'll not be able to cope, so won't even think to just button mash.

some food for thought:
section one doesnt meat the medieval/historical category, but i think has some merits for your review
Vampire survivors.. ok its not "pretty" but its addictive as a time filler. + Co-op coming
unrailed - if you plan to play with him ?
The Book of Unwritten Tales - pretty
Creeper World 4
Golf With Your Friends - single or alone
Lego Games - co-op
Oxygen Not Included - looks ok might be to complicated / building and management
Portal - might be to fast to play in some parts but over all its a puzzel story game
Forts may be to quick to play so maybe : ShellShock Live / Worms -
Subnautica - its pretty + story + base building
Besiege - build stuff
Mindustry - build stuff with a small threat
Unheard - Voices of Crime
Murdered: Soul Suspect - detective
The Witness - walking
The Wolf Among Us - point andclick / story

I'll second Farming Simulator, he might even like Car Mechanic Simulator

Since you mentioned Witcher 3 how about Thronebreaker?
Heroes of Might and Magic series
Settlers
Hero of the Kingdom 1 & 2
Lego games?
Medieval Dynasty

Gris is very beautiful and not hard at all. It's a basic platformer, but you're really just walking through a story

If he's anything like my 80+ year old dad, then Tetris maybe, at a push? Actually joking aside, my old mum used to love playing Tetris on a hand held device. I think it is actually a good game to keep the brain ticking over, with the reflexes needed etc, which is pretty much all they need at that age I reckon.

Or Elderly Ring?

He's 83, got a head injury not too long ago, and is now the proud owner of a ryzen 7600x and 4090.... He wanted a project and to build a computer, so he got one.
i can't help with game suggestions but i just wanted to say, well bloody done to your dad at 83 building a pc. i wish him many more years of good health to enjoy.

Elden ring :D

On a more serious note any sort of strategy or management game is your best bet. You can pause and take as much time as you want. You just need to figure out what suits your dads interest.

I will throw in transport tycoon 2 and stellaris into the mix.

Hey all, hoping for some advice. My dad has just finished putting together what's probably his last pc ever. He's 83, got a head injury not too long ago, and is now the proud owner of a ryzen 7600x and 4090.... He wanted a project and to build a computer, so he got one.

Now he wants something pretty to play on it. I'm looking for something that's not too complicated, very nice to look at (medieval/historical preferred), and enjoyable. Also, no quick time type events or quick reactions etc would be preferred.

Witcher 3 i considered, but it's a complicated game even if you turn it onto easy combat. Haven't played rdr2 but how simple is that on easy? I think the world of kingdom come deliverance could be perfect, but I seem to remember that could be tricky in combat?

Any ideas?

Hi Unseul,

Here are a few games you should try. You have already mentioned a couple.

RDR 2. It still looks great and it's pretty slow paced (At least I found it slow paced) So should be ideal for your Dad. AS well as that there are mods out for it, you should be able to change the way it plays to suit him.

Kingdom Come Deliverance. Another game that still looks fantastic. You are right the combat can be tricky to master but there are mods out that make combat easier.

Plague Tale Requiem. A very pretty game and you can play it however you want. Either Stealthily or all out combat. Would be a perfect game for your Dad, shows off the power of his new computer and is easy to control.

Lastly, I have to suggest Horizon: Zero Dawn. Yes, it has Quick Time Events, but they aren't too difficult. And there is story mode which reduces the difficulty a lot. It's another extremely good looking game. But the story is, well, it's epic.

sorry if i missed it, is he a loner or are you looking to play with him?

something like deeprock galactic is a nice social game to play with friends same with borderlands (borderlands is also incredibly easy if you do all the simple side missions before the main game as you even up hugely over levelled.

if he likes builder games..... it wont push the pc but something like sid meirs railroads could be good.

or how about minecraft.
