Game of the year - Bioshock

Bunch of horse crap.

Great game but definitely not GOTY material. I'll wait for some decent places to start giving out GOTY awards.

GOTY has to be The Orange Box in my opinion, I've been enjoying it since the TF2 beta and it's only going to get better as more maps are released. I was playing on a great TF2 server last night that had some sort of party mod where every class had a party hat and when you frag someone it's like an exploding pinata.

CoD4, Mario Galaxy, Orange box and Halo 3 are all easily better than BioShock.

Edit: Mass effect too.

Mass Effect for me although I haven't had chance to play Mario Galaxy yet.

I think Bioshock is a pretty good choice though mainly because its quite innovative in its story. There really is no right or wrong, It is so deep and layered that its more in the own users interpretation as to what actually happened and consequently where their sympathy's lay. Not many games really make you think about what your doing and why, if its right etc.

The full ending tied it all up so there are no ambiguities though.

SPOILERS THAT I WOULD HAVE PREFERRED NOT TO HAVE READ ~ Zefan.

What about these points :)

Was Andrew Ryan right for defying his own (and the citys) principals of free enterprise and taking action against Fontaine?

Was Fontaine simply one of a number of people that were taking advantage of Rapture? Was the idea of Rapture an inherently flawed system from the beginning and its eventual demise was pre determined regardless of Fontaine's actions.

Did either Fontaine or Andrew Ryan deserve to die because of their actions? Were the inhabitants innocent victims of did they get what they deserve going to unethical sciences that the rest of the world wouldn't accept.

As the player are you a free man or a slave? If it is the latter were the killings and your actions your choice or were you just as much a victim as anyone else.

There the ones from the top of my head but theres loads!

With all these answers I think its pretty clear this year has been the best one of the strongest years ever for gaming, perhaps since the early 2000's.

orange box isnt a game though, it's a collection of short games where two out of the three have no story at all. they are three good games but they arent GOTY material IMO :)

Aye, and a further 2 of them have been released a year or two before!

Completely agree, theres easily been 8-10 games that Id be quite happy to get GOTY. Games that I have played that I think are worthy this year:

Crysis
World In Conflict
Bioshock
Super Mario Galaxies
Mass Effect
Skate
Halo 3
Unreal Tournament 3
Orange Box
COD 4

my goty is bioshock i loved the concept and the story line was awesome imo. and i think if they got a decent director it would make a awesome film.

Perhaps even a better film than the game! It really would be amazing and there is a lot more material to work with than say Doom.

Slight Bioshock ending spoiler

The evil ending would be best setting up an amazing sequel against the "hero" of the first movie!
