Hi,

Do any modern cards still come with the old style "game port" connector that joysticks used to use ? I think it was referred to as a MIDI port as well.

I'm particularly looking at the X-FI range and on the picture I've seen of one it has a similar connector but it has 3 rows of pins instead of 2.

I wouldn't mind an X-Fi but if it doesn't have this connector I'll probably stick with my ageing Audigy 1.

Thanks

My Audigy 2 came with a joystick/game port fitted on a PCI plate. It could be joined to the connectors on the card inside. It may be something that is included with the retail cards? Mine was part of a ready built machine so I really don't know if it's standard. It is useful to have as like you say, it communicated using MIDI. If it is MIDI you wanted to use it for and you can't find one at all, you can buy a USB MIDI interface.

Thanks - I actually want it for my old MS force feedback joystick for flight sims. I'm loath to replace it as there's nothing wrong with it.

My Audigy1 has it on a separate PCI plate too.

Don't remember seeing the socket on the card for the expansion port, when I fitted my X-Fi. You could probably find a cheap pci gameport card on an auction site. Or maybe try a gameport to USB adaptor.

I did read about USB to game port adaptors but nothing very poistive. For example, they disable the force feedback.

I think I'll stick with my Audigy card for now. There's nothing wrong with it and I'm not worried about the sound quality.
