Game problems. Please help :(

Basically since i reinstalled windows 7 some games wont work. currently got f1 2011 installed and working fine and battlefield 3 works fine

I thought it was just skyrim that was broke but i got an rfactor demo with my G27 today and both games when i click the icon to play, it opens the screen like it's going to play then straight away it comes up a message saying Skyrim stopped working, windows is searching for a solution, does the exact same with rfactor as well

could there be a file or something i've missed to install after a fresh os install that would stop some games working?

Dot net framework 4 perhaps?

Just tried it, it repaired it but still the same problem in both games

Any other ideas?

Standard stuff, update/reinstall drivers etc.

Skyrim's always going to be a PITA, I've found on friends' machines that your graphics settings can mean the difference between playable and a straight CTD. I cant account for rfactor though. Any other games having trouble?

When did you reinstall? Could you conceivably just..do it again?

Only redid it just under 2 weeks ago. don't wanna reinstall windows ideally

I've tried updating the mobo drivers and the nvidia ones, all windows updates, can't understand it :S

Also just finished installing need for speed the run, works fine as well :S

Would understand if none worked, but some do and some don't is just making no sense at all

Hmm, try manually running the DX9 and DX11 redistributable installers (downloadable from microsoft website). This solved some problems I was having a while back with some games on windows 7.

You got a link to those? i think i found it but wanna double check, when i tried the 9 one i found it said there was an equivalent or newer version installed

Ah, well http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=35 that'll probably be the one.. If it's not working then that might be that idea out of the window

Do you have SP1 installed?

yeah updates to sp1 a couple of days ago.

Uninstalled SP1 and games are working now, cheers Alex for that suggestion about sp1, made me google it and find a lot of people had the same problem, had that and a lot of windows explorer crashing when clicking on desktop after installing it as well
