Was talking to my mate last night and he said he want to game to buy Crysis 2.
While he was there he thought he'd pre-order Gears Of War 3 as well so he could get into the beta. He was told that in order to get into the beta he had to pre-order the limited edition and that he also had to pay a non refundable £5:eek:
How the hell do they get away with crap like that? Blatantly lying to people to try and make more money:mad:

I'm guessing the £5 is to cover all the folks that pre-order just to get the code to get into the beta and then cancel their pre-order.

I can understand the paying a deposit to get a beta code.

Is your complaint the fact they told him to order the CE??

Sounds like he has been lied to, you do have to pay £5, but all deposits at game are fully refundable if you change your mind... Just got a refund on my 3DS pre-order for example as I changed my mind!

Jcb33.

It's the fact they're telling people they need to pre-order the limited edition to get access to the beta. That's a blatant lie.
Some people will do this, won't know they can cancel and will end up paying more money than planned.

Didn't even realise that people actually pre-order on the high street! Can't see why you'd bother, you have to go and get it, you have to pay more (most of the time), and deal with staff trying to up-sell everything.

As for GAME, I always try to avoid the shop at all costs. Can't believe that they're even getting people to pre-order used games now!

Someone on the radio pre-ordered a 3DS with GAME, then he saw a supermarket were doing the console for £30 less, so he went to GAME at the launch, asked a nearby attendant if he could have his deposit back as the supermarket were selling for £30 less, they told him not to worry as they would be price matching. When he got to the front of the queue they weren't price matching at all, so while he did get his deposit back when he got to the front, they still wasted his time.

:/

I found GAME to be useless too.
When I went in to get a PSP Go and asked them (store manager was in the shop at the time)
if they would match the price of Argos a few doors away as it was £5 cheaper, they wouldnt do it even for a fiver.
They should make the most of customers actually going in to the shop
as I rarely go in there to have a look around, never mind to buy the overpriced stuff.

Even ones where you get something before the item is released??

I find that hard to believe tbh.

Never liked games practices.

Really erks me when I go in to buy something and I'll have some staff member try and force feed me a pre-owned copy every time.

May be generalising, but many staff's knowledge of consoles has always been pretty poor imo as well. Had a mate that used to work there, and while waiting for him to come off shift I'd often hear staff trying to "help" customers trying to figure out what cable they needed or how to find some setting they needed on the console etc. So often they'd either be completely making it up or selling the wrong product for what they were actually after.

Woah woah woah!

People still buy video games from the highstreet?!

In regards to the Gears 3 beta its a shame that Epic have got into bed with EA and done a deal with GAME so that you have to either buy the bulletstorm epic edition or pre order Gears 3 from them. I dont think BETA access should be sold to anyone.

I think many people are going to pre order GEARS 3 and cancel when thy have beta access, wether they get their preorder monies back I have no idea.

Totally agree. I asked one of the staff members if hey had Heavy Rain in to which the woman replied "What platform is that on?". Also asking about Borderlands DLC the guy there had to look up what game Borderlands (not that knowing what game it was helped him in finding if they had it or not. He said that it was maybe not official..)

I don't think I ever would be able to work in a shop without at least trying to get a general knowledge about what I'm selling, even if it's of no personal interest. And the thing is they usually are not good sellers either, so why on earth have they been employed when they can't sell or know anything about it

We got one guy at the local Game that knows his stuff though.

I have been wondering about this for a while. It doesn't say anywhere on the GAME website as far as I can see that you must pay a £5 deposit online (on GameStation or Gameplay either) to get the beta?

For anyone who has pre-ordered online then, have you been charged anything? They suggest that they do not charge until dispatch.

I preordered at Game and haven't been charged

Game make me laugh, I pre-ordered a Wii with Twighlight Princess years ago, I think I paid something like 20 pounds and couldn't wait until the release day. I went down on launch day in the afternoon during my break and was told that both the console and the game had sold out in the morning. I said I had a pre-order and showed the staff my little slip and they said that people with pre-orders had to come in first thing to pick up their reserved copies or they wouldn't hold a copy, even though it cleary stated on the slip that I could pick it up my order up to 72 hours after the launch.

I asked for a refund and was told that all pre-orders are non-refundable, I asked to see the manager and he said he would give me some vouchers as a good will gesture. I kept demanding my money back and they eventually coffed it up. This happened to a few other people from my school as well, luckily we all got our money back and bought elsewhere.
