Game really have shady business practices!

Even ones where you get something before the item is released??

I find that hard to believe tbh.

As far as I know they are not paying for the BETA codes so they have no reason to hold onto the money, and I am prety sure they can't ignore their own 28 day return policy which covers anything....

they charge £42.99 now for new games, everywhere else on the high street charges £39.99, and online is even cheaper, how are they still in business, I have noticed my town had 3 game stores they have closed down all but 1 now

Woah woah woah!

People still buy video games from the highstreet?!

Of course. Only because I can trade stuff in and use the store credit against new releases though, and even then it's only when there's not much difference between the store price and the cheapest online price.

I got asked what platform I wanted wipeout HD on.

I got asked if I wanted Killzone 3 on PS3 or Xbox - in fairness, he quickly realised what he said :)

I'm not a huge fan of Game, but it is handy to have a shop nearby when I get an urge for a game "right now". I just chalk up the extra expense as a convenience tax.

He only went because he was getting crysis 2 and you got it for £5 if you traded homefront in.

I think many people are going to pre order GEARS 3 and cancel when thy have beta access, wether they get their preorder monies back I have no idea.

That's what i'm doing. Only because Gears 3 is cheaper in near enough every other shop/website.

You wouldn't get a fashionless nerd working in a fashion shop so why have someone that doesn't know anything about games working in a video game store..

Yes but someone in a 'fashion' wouldn't necessarily know everything to do with 'fashion', much like how people in 'game' shops do not know everything about games. At the end of the day they may have relevant knowledge but there will be times where their knowledge isn't enough for some

Could always have better training in these places not being funny but being served by someone who doesn't have a clue doesn't look good for the company.

I think the last time I bought a game in GAME or Gamestation was in the xmas sales and is was a copy of used MAG.

Cost 9 quid or something, which was cheaper than anywhere else.

Other than that I avoid the place unless my sister gives me a giftcard for xmas or something, then obviously its a free game as such.

I only go to game because I trade in titles.. And have a reward card so pick up points when I buy stuff.

Not much of a reason but enough for me lol

Managed to get Crysis for a fiver when trading I. Homefront at the weekend.. Was happy with that :)

"GAME has admitted that its stores bought Tesco's 3DS stock to sell in-store.

An internal memo encouraged staff members to take advantage of Tesco's £175 Nintendo 3DS launch offer and sell the bundles in-store as second-hand, according to Eurogamer.

"Whilst we are unable to competitively match [Tesco's] offer in terms of a mint price, it offers a great opportunity to gain 3DS consoles and games for your store's pre-owned stock," read the document.

Staff members were given £1049.50 per journey, equal to five bundles each, with stores encouraged to make several trips.

However, it was noted that pre-owned stock was only to be sold to customers once all new hardware reserves had gone.

A representative from GAME confirmed the document's validity, stating it was not a "mandatory" practice and that it had occurred in "small volumes".

"Some of our stores wanted to move quickly last weekend to build their pre-owned stocks of 3DS at the same time as their local competitors, so we gave them a process to do that," they said.

Tesco has since commented on the issue, saying that the supermarket provides its customers with the best value, adding: "We think you could say this is GAME, set and match."

The Nintendo 3DS launched last week in the UK and US alongside 15 launch titles."
